NIL and the Portal

So all 3 private/unreported salaries are in the Big 12. Notre Dame, USC, all of those report their salaries?
No…the privates did not And therefore can’t be included in the analysis. The number would make it seem that way. USA Today said 69 Power Five, but the actual list contains 86 schools which includes programs like Creighton and Princeton. Not sure how they determined the cutoff.

Isn't the Az athletic dept deep in the hole? They are making the hard choice to punt on sports that lose money. I'm guessing FB and MBB will get funded to best of their abilities and everything else gets scraps. 500K isn't a terrible salary IMO.

Factor in they were WAY overpaying before this.

Yeah…they were paying based on one extremely good year that was never again replicated. Of course her package at SMU wasn’t disclosed since they are a private. But outside of one miracle year, the program at Arizona was in disarray.

The clock keeps ticking along…seems like the number of flashy commits from portal players has slowed down (there are still a bunch of top players like Sarah Williams, Sa'Miyah Smith, etc. available). Inquiring minds are waiting to see if ISU can pull in another big piece of the puzzle.

On a side note…I think it’s amazing that some teams like Iowa or Iowa State hang on to their main core while other teams like Georgia Tech or Indiana see mass exoduses. Some sports writer needs to dig in and do interviews as to why players from very successful teams jump ship.

Think it’s going to be difficult to land another big piece to the puzzle or big name, after getting Jada.

Like on the men’s side, lots of players in the portal waiting to find a home yet..

It'd be interesting to see how many just never find a home. I'm sure a small percentage and go into the portal and never come out.

All depends on the money they have to spend. My guess is the budget is pretty tapped with Audi, Addy and Jada.

My hope is that the top players are burning through most of school's NIL money. So there will be talented role players who may be available late. I would be happy if we could find a 4 who excels at rebounding & defense. If they are a 6-8ppg scorer, I'd be happy. The key is complimenting/compensating for Audi's skill set.

One UNI senior who might give us good depth is Grace Boffeli? Might be a good academic fit? I don’t recall how she did against us, back when she was healthy.

I assume now that the portal is closed we won’t be seeing any additions unless they are a grad transfer. All others would have to sit out next season.

Very well could be wrong, but my understanding was players can no longer enter the portal, but they can still visit and figure out where they want to go to school?

The portal is closed to enter it. Anyone already in the portal can sign with a new team and not be penalized.

Correct and correct. There is no time limit for players already in the portal to determine where they will go.
