I wanted ISU to win but the reason you guys lost is because you couldn't defend the paint at all. there were multiple times I saw #10 out rebound 3 cyclones on the offensive glass

Virginia is not the better team. Down by 7 with plenty of time left and you take out Niang and bring him back in down by much more unable to play freely? Many of their points at the end of the game was simply breaking our press. We didn't win but don't discount the officiating in securing the win for UVA.

Burton slapped the UVA player's left hand, knocking it off the ball. It was a foul. The call on Niang was a bad one, as it was clearly all ball. He did body the guy on his drive though, which with the freedom of movement stuff was probably a foul. Should have been on the floor though.

Virginia was a better team in my eyes. And I emphasize the word TEAM. SoCal born and Arizona St. grad, so no dog in the fight here. Been living in DSM since '03 if you are wondering why I am here, so I take interest to local teams. The way they pass the ball and just run their offense is why they are a better team. They do not have better talent. But they are a better team. I agree, you cannot count what they were doing at the end of the game as being superior. It's what they did during the first 10 minutes of the game on offense. Couldn't believe some of the passes they were making.

That was an offensive foul on the floor, guys hand was in Niangs chest pushing off. Should have been play on and a block.

Virginia is the better team, but they're a team we can beat. I have no problem saying that Virginia is, indeed, better than us right now.

The light incidental contact on the UVA players left hand was away from the ball and had no effect on the player trying to slam it with his right hand as Burton blocked it, so yes it was a bad call. On the Niang play the contact on the drive could have just as easily been a push off on the offense but was probably best a no-call as somebody pointed out, as should have been Niang's block. Not taking away from a great game by Virgina, who dominated inside, just pointing out that had Niang not had to leave the game when we were down 8, the outcome may have been different. Virginia went on a 9-2 run while he was on the bench which completely reversed the momentum, and changed how we had to play the rest of the game.

Syracuse proved just how important this call was. Their run happened at the same time as ours too.

Virginia won because:

1. They got off to a great start with scoring, including a nice Wes Washpun bounce on a 3.
2. We got some nice looks early with shots that didn't go down.
3. They made incredible interior passes, often two on a play with a perfectly efficient shot at the end.
4. Niang was called for a couple of moving screens and a foul on a blocked shot on what were marginal calls at best.
5. They did a great job of breaking our press at the end.

I didn't see it that way at all. Looked like Georges turned to box out as Gill was starting to go up. Just because Gill wound up taking a hard fall doesn't mean there was a foul. Georges was in position to rebound and was within the rules of the game from what I could tell. I remember this play well because it was one of many that Reggie had to point out that he thought Niang got away with something. Not saying we didn't benefit from any other calls but in that particular case, I thought they got it right.

Georges BEGAN in a position to rebound and had him boxed out. He continued to move under the UVA player while he was in the air. I've seen player's careers taken away because of such a move. Georges was extremely fortunate not to have a foul called on that play.

If you think he undercut him then you are clueless. Contact in the floor and Virginia guy tried to do an acting job after jumping.

The official didn't even fall for that.

If you DON'T think he undercut the UVA player, you didn't see the replay. His feet were moving to position him under the UVA player while the player was in the air. As I said before, Georges was very fortunate he didn't get that called a foul.

It does present an interesting what if. Would Virginia have collapsed similarly if we had got the score really close or tied? Perhaps, though I just don't know that we had a defensive answer that could have held them off.

I was at the game and we would have beaten both of them tonight. There were a bunch of Syracuse people up by me and I didn't really care who one but it made me mad to see them do what I know we could have and should have done.

This. We were flat out, out played. It didn't help that Jameel and Nader hardly did anything. Georges played very well though.
