The team is taking a year off but still has enough that tanking isn't a real option.
Barring an injury to Brown or White for extended time, they will still be a solid team. They would have to really pull out some stops to tank. It definitely makes sense for them to move off of Holiday and Porzingas.

Porzingas has had a ton of injuries, but he didn't even look like an NBA player these playoffs. Maybe he can recover and be good again. But he really looked like he didn't belong on the court. Holiday is still an OK player, but he's definitely down to the end where he can be a nice veteran role guy off the bench.

I can't imagine Mazzula being okay with taking a dive, that dude is crazy. I would think they would still make it safely into the playoffs as constructed without Tatum. Wouldn't expect them to do much in the playoffs but they should make it.

If they were in the West they might have trouble making the playoffs. Brown and White are a good enough tandem with a decent cast of role guys to make the playoffs in the East.

Well wouldn't it be Niang, Fred, or Aziz? Its kinda crazy how similar their career stats are right now. I don't know anything about Aziz but he has the best career stats of the 3 IMO. That doesn't necessarily mean he's the best, but I don't have anything else to go off of with him.

Edit: I should have thrown Grayer in that same mix, although he's at a games played disadvantage. But his other stats are right there too.
Monte stats are comparable to Fred and Niang. Don't forget THT - his stats are in the same ballpark too and he is only 24.

They seem to hate him

IIRC a couple years ago during the conference finals Georges was sitting at the end of the bench for Philly. When Jaylen Brown was near their sideline and tried to get back in transition, Georges reached out and grabbed him at the knee to slow him up. If someone did that to Tamin in Kansas City I would certainly hold a grudge forever and always

The Knicks get celebrities to do that work.

Probably Tinsley for now but Georges might pass him slow and steady. Cato in the mix but such a defensive specialist, they don’t even have guys like that any more.
Niang has never been a consistent starter and has been a non-factor in the playoffs. For those reasons alone I would put below Tinsley every day of the week. Below Cato as well. Maybe on par with Hoiberg and Monte.

Tinsley was a starting point guard in the conference finals!!! Georges has carved out a solid journeyman career, but they're simply not in the same conversation.

I would tend to agree.

I only bring it up that for career totals Georges is getting way higher on the all time Cyclone list than I'd have ever expected. I'm probably more surprised by him than Tyrese. With Tyrese only the incredible big shots surprise me, I full expected him to be a starter as a top pass first point guard.

If Georges has a few more years of production I could see him as the best player who wasn't a regular starter. I would have figured Monte would have better career production but Georges probably will top him.

Aziz is before my time but really we've only had Hornacek, Tinsley and Haliburton as players who were typically starters in their prime (and had a long prime). Haliburton, Hornaceck, Tinsley would be my 1-3 in that order and I can see the type of fan who still goes Hornacek #1 for the massive career produciton. #4 you could probably convince me of a handful of players. Georges has definitely entered that discussion as the 4th or 5th best pro, he's passed 4000 points and it seems like we have a lot of guys right around 4000 something points, Monte is almost exactly 4000 points. All world Garza is 600 career points to compare to the gold standard.

They are trying to get younger and cheaper. Georges is one of those.
Younger? Younger!?!?

Niang is the third oldest play on the Celtics. He does not make them younger.

He might get moved just because the Celtics will likely make more moves to reduce luxury taxes. They wouldn't move him because they want to, but because his contract could help facilitate a larger deal.

Edit: I misread Ferschizzle's post. Not deleting this. Leaving it as evidence of my stupidity.

Reading the Celtics fans hate Georges because he grabbed Jaylen Brown's knee like Jaylen Brown didn't just grab Josh Hart by the junk in the playoffs.

he makes them cheaper, provides viable scoring, and gives them a cheap starter for their tanking efforts next year while tatum rehabs.

If Niang plays, he should become the first Cyclone with 1,000 threes in the NBA. He could also move up to third all-time in NBA points behind Horny & Hali.

Quin Snyder saved Georges career by giving him a chance to earn rotation minutes in Utah. At that point, Georges was behind Abdel Nader as an NBA prospect, and far behind Monte Morris. Now, Nader has been out of the league for years and Monte got injured and fell off, but Georges stayed healthy and kept getting better. His 9.9 points per game this year was a career high, and he passed Monte in regular season career scoring late in the season. And Utah, Philadelphia and Cleveland all got worse after Niang left. What a winner.

Anybody else worried that Niang might get lumped into one of the draft trades? I hope not because I would like to see him play as a Celtic.
