It may end up extending his earnings if he ends up getting more minutes in Atlanta. He’ll get an opportunity to produce and attract better offers for his next deal

2 years in the NBA and you are set for life, that's $3mil. You just invest most of it and you could hopefully live off $200k/yr.

We see this a lot but it doesn’t tell the whole story. If someone makes $3 mil in the NBA, they’ll likely take home ~50% of that after taxes and agent fees (depending where they live). And then they have to live in (generally) more expensive places. And if they don’t hyper-watch their expenses, blowing through $1 million in a few years isn’t difficult to do. So that “$3 mil” is usually less than $1 mil saved and using a 4% withdrawal rule of thumb to make that money last 30+ years, you are talking about $40k per year…

Niang making $30+ mil in his career is mostly exempt from this and he’ll be set for life but he’s the exception and not the rule for non-starter NBA players.

I feel like Georges is more likely to be in media somewhere. Maybe he is the successor to Heft?
I don’t think so. Too free with his honest opinions. Great for fans…but I think he’d get in trouble. Maybe in 15-20 years though…

I suppose 3 years $5mil would do it

Pretty sure his $8.2m for next year is guaranteed. Its likely he'll get up to $50m+ in career earnings if he signs one more contract.

Some might not know it, but he's a big contributor to We Will.

Correct, current contract is fully guaranteed, so he’ll get the 10 years (pension) and $38m in career earnings. Given his reputation as a good culture guy, I’m sure, barring catastrophe, he’s got a few years left if he wants to keep playing.

Niang's career is amazing.

NBA minimum for a 10yr vet is $3.3m - I bet he'll snag one more 1-2 year deal and make another $7-10m.
At least, with his style of play he can stick around for plenty more years. He's already making $8.5M and the NBA just prints money. I bet his next deal is 2 years $20Mish

All NBA contracts are guaranteed. And yeah I think most of the matches Blum announces have come from a mix of Georges and Hali

NBA contracts can and do have team options (and player options). But your point is correct when comparing to something like NFL contracts where most of the time a big chunk of the contract isn't guaranteed.

Ah yeah, his next year isn't a player or team option AFAIK

With his ability to hit the 3 he is going to be a trade target sought after by playoff teams much like Korver was.

To be fair, the Iowa "Hawkeyes" aren't actually a bird team.

They're named after a character from James Fenimore Cooper novels.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natty_Bumppo

Their name is more "pioneer action hero" than "visual acuity of predatory birds."
Interesting that the two big state schools have mascots that don't match their team nickname. The Cyclones have a cardinal and the Hawkeyes have a hawk.
