Please tell me that the gnome came from a private donation and our tax dollars or our hard pressed university budget dollars were not used to purchase a giant garden gnome?

The garden is funded 40% by ISU (the owner), 40% by revenues from the facility itself and 20% donations. My understanding that the gardens themselves and "monuments" are 100% donation funded.

With that said, why donate a HUGE gnome since something that big can't still be considered a gnome? I think the next time I donate to the gardens I will inlcude a gnome exculsion caveat!

The Gardens have a different theme every summer. Last year, it was dinosaurs, this year it is gnomes. These things are likely rented for the summer and I'm sure that Reiman Gardens views it as a promotional investment. Believe me, they are strapped enough to know better than to waste their budget, no matter where those dollars came from.

It is this year's theme. They do a theme every year. Supported by donations. They tried to get Travelocity to sponser part of it but they passed.

That could have had some fun with that. The Travelocity gnome could have done a double take on seeing Godzilla Gnome!

I would guess that part of the funding is from Roy and Bobby Reiman, a very successful publisher Husband/Wife team out of Greendale, WI. He sold his Pub Company with several titles to Readers Digest about 5-7 years ago for around $800,000,000 to $900MM dollars. I belive he was a graduate of ISU, hence the garden. Maybe we can get him interested in Football and get that stadium bowled in!

maybe if we promise the Reimans that the troll can sit in the South end zone...they will help out bowling it in.
