You can make a very legit argument that the 1st and 2nd team RBs could easily be reversed. Pooka in particular, has a great skill set and is dangerous as a runner and receiver, but I wouldn't take him as an every down back over either of the 2nd teamers.
That's a different consideration, IMO. This is to honor the players/coaches that had the best respective seasons. It isn't to select which players one would choose if they were building a team, which I agree would be DM.
This year, Pooka had more rushing yards, 3x more receiving yards, more total yards, 2x more receptions, much higher YPC, much higher YP reception.
And (giving DM benefit of doubt for ejection/suspension game lost, canceled game, and injured game; and Pooka the benefit of the doubt for not playing in KU's first game for whatever reason), Pooka had ~12.5 more total YPG, ~15.5 more RecYPG, only 3 less RuYPG . It's hard to argue that DM absolutely deserved this honor over Pooka when looking at their respective statistical outputs for the season.
