They've actually rebranded themselves as University of Omaha but I might die of laughter if they become the first "Nebr University System" school to get a March Madness win....

On a related note, we played them in Hilton a few years ago so we should schedule an away with them. They play in a nice smaller arena with about 8K capacity. Would be great for us Cyclones in the Omaha area. It's in a nice new area with restaurants and bars too.
Also I think they average around 3-4k so no reason an away with them could be a "home" for us.

ISU played them this year in Hilton.

"Omaha will play St. Thomas in the tournament final Sunday night, but the Tommies are ineligible for the NCAA tournament while completing its transition to Division I. That means Omaha will receive the league's automatic bid no matter the result, because the Mavericks won the regular-season conference title."
It's a dumb rule, but good for Omaha. I think they win tonight anyway. St Thomas is poised to be a problem in that league though once eligible.

Freddy has his hands full in Lincoln trying to remain relevant in the weakest Power Conference in college basketball. I am curious if Nebby men's basketball has as big of NIL budget as the women's volleyball team?
they don't care about basketball Fred needs to get out of there

The result of ESPN's SEC/B1G bias. B1G teams have been rising in the rankings, ala MSU, Wiscy, and Maryland by beating up on the Iowa's and other bottom feeders in the league. Case in point Wisconsin just lost at home to PSU (a conference tournament non qualifier) by 11.
True. It’s always been the case, and it’s why they are the P2. And it’s only going to get worse

They have the biggest footprint, biggest constituency, and the biggest brands

Knowing several grads and students at UNO, nothing would make them happier than being able to do that.

Better to schedule it in CHI where Creighton plays and the NCAA were last year. It would be full, would sort of be a home game for UNO, but would have a large ISU presence.

Not exactly sure.
Why does the NCAA have that rule?
May be due to scholarship situations. In D2/NAIA you can have 40 partial schollys. So maybe they get a waiver for a couple years to get those things straightened out and not have to cut a bunch of players?

UNO makes it first ever NCAA March Madness tournament. How hilarious would it be if UNO racked up a win that Lincoln has never accomplished?

if that happens... they will just pull the funding like football and wrestling

Why does the NCAA have that rule?

I think because there are like 350+ D1 teams and all these little schools/conferences want to become eligible for the Big Dance and a nice paycheck. So the NCAA is like, "hold on, if you want to play D1, fine, but you will wait five years".

It’s to make sure the departments are able to meet Division 1 academic and athletic “standards.”

Entry eligibility requirements between D1 and D2 are different. There has to be a time period for these teams to become compliant.

But it's technically a road game but we get about 50% of the crowd.
So we just want to be nice and hand a chunk of money to a team that most people wouldn’t be excited to see?

If we got half the gate, okay. Otherwise it’s like peeing money away.

Agree on the area. Aksarben has grown a ton the past decade or so. We should not play there tho. Creighton is the Omaha team we should be playing. I have a ton of memories going to UNO and Creighton basketball camps growing up

I did some work on UNO's campus last winter and was blown away at the new facilities that had been built on campus. Academic and athletic both. It's a nice campus. Think about what Grand View did X10. I know it pissed a lot of alumni off when they dropped football, added hockey, and made the transition to D1 but it's more than worked out for them. Their hockey team has already been to a Frozen 4 and now the basketball team is in the tourney. It's a good story. Hard not to root for them knowing their success pisses Creighton and Husker fans off too
