Iowa State clearly has more to lose, as it is a no win situation. A Big 12 program that loses to teams like NDSU two years in a row is not healthy and would be looking at a coaching change in the not so distant future. For ISU it is the easiest game of the year, it is a must win game in a no win situation.

I don't know, do we? If NDSU loses, that's it for them. Season over, as ISU is the only big game on their schedule. If the Cyclones lose, we have a ton more opportunities to knock out a big name opponent. Imagine if we lose to NDSU but follow up with wins over KSU and Iowa. Would anyone care about the NDSU loss then? I know I wouldn't. We also have games against OU, UT, and Baylor where wins would be a lot more season-defining than a loss to NDSU.

Now, if we lose all of those games... THEN we have a problem.

Great. So I take it the $100 offer is off the table now?

If you haven't been over to Bisonville, don't bother. Here is the kind of crap being posted over there:

"Mangino is one unhealthy individual, he's bound to fall over any second from a heart attack. That isn't meant as smack at all. Does anyone feel the same way I do about how a coaching staff is a very visible representation of their team, program, and university? Personally, and this is only my opinion, but if I was to hire a staff that was going to be responsible to get the most of out my schools team, I'd want to hire men that are disciplined and hard working. Do you think a kid looks at a guy like Mangino and thinks in the back of his mind that this guy is a mess and if Mangino tells him to run harder, lift harder, give more effort, etc. that he's probably not going to pay as much attention or respect him as much?"

F***ing unbvelievable! Apparently, winning a NC and an Orange Bowl gets you no respect, but if you win the mighty FCS championship game, that's a different story. I really hope we curbstomp them into oblivion!

Honestly i would still care. We will have lost to an FCS opponent for the second straight year and that would make me mad.

I agree that it would be a big letdown, but let's say (hypothetically speaking): would you take an NDSU loss or an OU win if you had to pick one?

I get the point you are trying to make, with this being our only big time game, but this is Absolutely not true. Our goal is to win a 4th consecutive national championship. In a lower division than you. Still the goal though. This can still very much be accomplished with a loss at Iowa State. No doubt the most exciting game of the year, but we definitely won't be as crushed as you will be with a loss. Remember, we are FCS, a ****** division, playing in a ****** dome, in a ****** state. we are thankfully officially underdogs now too! We are supposed to lose this game.

This whole argument gets back to the point a power 5 school should never, ever, schedule a game with an FCS team they could potentially lose to.

Like it matters... Haven't you heard they have the best conditioning coach in the country? They can go 2 full games in a row if needed.

Conditioning coach ? Never heard of such a thing. Do we have one of those? If not we definitely need to follow NDSU's lead and get one asap!

We do have one, but ours takes the team out to McDonald's for lunch and makes sure they run out of gas by the end of the first quarter. The NDSU conditioning coach must have some secret training method nobody's heard of before.

The problem with that statement is that these games are scheduled soooo many years in advance that NDSU wasn't a good team at the time of scheduling. That, of course, has changed, and no one could have predicted that. Sometimes things are unlucky.

So I've read through this thread, well as much as I could anyways. And what I'm not getting is why all of you are getting your feathers ruffled by some lowly NDSU fans. I mean, they aren't really even trying that hard, but you guys are falling for everything. It's pretty sad, I thought we as a fan base were smarter than this.

I'm not sure why all the hate toward an FCS program that has had more national notoriety than our program has. When Gameday comes to Ames let me know. I have full respect for NDSU. Winning 3 straight FCS championships is incredible no matter the division. Just because we are on TV doesn't mean squat. It's all relative.

Uni is not even on NDSU'S level. So your loss to them last year would be faaaarrrr worse than a lose to NDSU this year.
In fact if Iowa State loses to NDSU your sagarin rating will go up!!

UNI played with NDSU up until Farley's kid got hurt. As far as I'm concerned, UNI was every bit as good as NDSU to begin last season.
