I got hit up 3 weeks ago...the dude came down from $3200 to $700. When I couldn't get him any lower, I bolted to "work" in the backyard and left my wife to endure the 2.5 hour sales pitch. He cleaned about 4' of our carpet and left. I then got to complain that she didn't even get him to clean like he was supposed to. She wasn't a happy camper as I'm the one who let him in.

Just lost 2 hours of my life.

Some girl knocked on the door with a flyer (it did not say Kirby on it) and asked if they could clean my carpet. She metioned that they were surveying the area to possibly open up a business in town. I own a business in town and am all about new business so I thought I would help her out. She said we are not going to ask you to reach for your checkbook but rather just tell the community how good of a job they do. My wife was gone, I was home with my girls, ages 2 and almost 1 so I thought it would be a way to kill some time.

She left and 15 minutes later two guys named Travis pulled up in a 1990 Ford Explorer. I knew I was ****ed then. They came in, promised me this was a no pressure situation and went on for the next 90 minutes cleaning my carpets, bad mouthing my current vaccum cleaner and pretty much telling me that my baby will probably "be diagnosed" with SIDS from all of the dust mites in our home because dust mites are the number one cause of SIDS. When I asked him for documentation on that he about **** himself.

It took me a while to get good ole Travis out of the house. He tried calling "the closer" in but I told him it wasn't worth his time and tell the other Travis to not even bother. They wanted 3200 for the vaccum or I could set up a paymrnt plan with 21% interest! I offered him 250 bucks cash money and he let me know that he was very offended.

I was actually nice to the guy but it was fun getting him away from the ****** because he would get extremely flustered and keep on saying, "well, um, the point of the vaccum is to get up ALL the dirt, right?"

So beware greater Des Moines area, they are out and about again.

I had a wonderful conversation with a hottie once, ended up with a sierra club membership. It was worth it.

is there a guy and a girl who are only one sale away from getting a free honeymoon? We had one last fall who said he would clean our carpet for free. I let him and watched an ISU football game on TV.

I'm teaching her a lesson by making her deal with the presentation and ignoring the whole thing. This might be divorce-worthy. :dull::no::confused::no:

Is it just a coincidence that when I opened this forum, I got these ads at the top of the CF page?

[Edited to say that the ads which didn't show up in my post were both for Kirby Vacuums "brought by Google."]

Kind of curious on this guys because in Chicago (and anywhere now for that matter) if someone comes to my door I don't know and asks to come in, I just say no. I don't want to end up tied to a chair with my belongings taken out the back.

I wonder how many jobs this guy failed just to say. "F it, might as well sell vaccuums." I would pass on that job and stay unemployed, mainly cuz i'd feel like a jerk for giving the presentation.

I have two kirby stories.

Story 1-While I was working my way through college I answered an ad for a warehouse job. I went to the interview and found out it was kirby wanting salesman. They even scam there sales people into working for them by having misleading ads. I walked out when I walked in and saw it was kirby.

Story 2- One time they came to my house and said they were having a drawing for a 100 bucks gas. I gave them my brother in laws info.

We just chased a carload of Kirby reps away. The guy said his boss would give him $20 if we just let him come in and show it to us. I thought about letting him in the door for $15.

I'm in need, is Dyson the way to go?

Anyone try a Shark Rotator?

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1pe2bd/iama_vacuum_repair_technician_and_i_cant_believe/

Firstly, we have a saying; There are no bad vacuums (except Shark). You should match a vacuum to your particular needs.

The brands I endorse: Riccar - America for their uprights

Miele - Germany for their canisters (best filtration. period)

Sebo - Germany for its solid performance and suction

Brands to avoid:

Shark - Just don't....ever.

Bissell - used to make grea machines. now have crappy parts and complicated crap

Eureka - their top models are the only ones I would consider buying if I wanted something disposal.

Kirby - might get raped in your home.

Rainbow - Seriously? Complicated crap w/ poor design.
