I haven't seen anyone mention UNLV yet? Why not add them from the MWC as well if we are replacing teams or simply expanding the conference. I get the BYU and Utah angle for tv market, I get Memphis as well, Boise State, all have benefits. But Vegas has to be a decent sized market, and how sweet would it be to go to Vegas every other year for football, or every year for basketball? And they have decent history for basketball...

If one team leaves the Big 12, I dont think its going to be 'let's add another' I think that will start the tumbling blocks.

Not bad, but I'd rather get Louisville. Maybe they don't want to have to compete with Big 12 teams, and we don't have the revenue sharing that makes the Big 10 so appealing to Big East teams, though. However, this arms race doesn't look good for the Big East, so they might want to jump when they can.

I don't think any of those schools make much sense in terms of travel. I would say TCU, Arkansas and maybe a Memphis would work but the other ones don't make much sense!!

According to google map driving miles:

Ames to Austin, TX: 962 miles
Ames to Louisville, KY: 611 miles
Ames to Las Vegas, NV: 1453 miles

Nothing wrong with Louisville...

Don't you really think it depends on who that team is Jon. Texas goes the league doesn't recover. But if CU goes west, I don't think it effects the conference to the point of Armagedon. Its not a good thing, but not the end of the world. Not good for ISU if they add another southern school though.

yeah but with vegas the team will probably be able to catch one of allegiant's 2-for-1 specials... it'll be cheaper in the end

Throwing another name in that hat that hasn't been mentioned a whole lot: Memphis.

I think the Big12 will stay together. It will definitely lose it's luster, especially in football, but I think it could be a Big East type of situation. Not really a powerhouse, but still higher than the MWC or MAC.

If this happens sooner than later then I think the conference will stick together just for the sake of keeping the automatic BCS. Since that is under contract for several more years, I don't think that Texas or Colorado leaving would take that away and will give the remaining or added schools time to build their programs up and see what becomes of the conference.

Ideally, I would like to see the Big 12 make a huge move and make an attempt at Arizona State first and then see about Arizona. ASU is struggling with their wrestling program and a move to the Big 12 would certainly help add to the strength of Big 12 wrestling at least by the number of schools that participate. Adding Arizona would make sense if a deal could be worked out with ASU and then shift the Oklahoma schools to the North division.

I wouldn't think that the commissioner for a BCS conference is going to be looking at the "little brothers" when the Big 10 and Pac 10 are both gunning for teams associated with the Big 12. I think Miller is right in the fact that if one Big 12 school leaves there isn't a single school that can fill that void left in the Big 12 and the Big 12 will collapse, unless the new school is also from a BCS conference.

Not to dismiss your thoughts -- but this is magical thinking if you think ASU would consider moving from the Pac -10 because of it's wrestling program. If a team leaves (I don't care who it is) that is not going to result in a simple artimetical addition. It is going to cause a cascade effect which will be calamitous for the Big 12.

I really worry about this -- as it won't be a Missouri that leaves it will be a big fish and that impacts us big time.
