Brent Musberger is set to retire from calling games next week. I've long been a fan of his (er, unique?) style, even though I know it's not for everyone. Just hearing his voice always made it seem like a big game to me.

His next step? You could've probably guessed it if you've heard any of his games... starting a sports handicapping company in Vegas ;)

It's probably on YouTube somewhere still, but there was a game that him and Fran called a few years ago that got posted to YouTube and included their conversations during timeouts. The camera panned to the pom squad performing during such a TO and he asked "which one of you wants to be a star tonight?"

Creep.

I will most remember these BM moments:

1. Some K-State football game against some team I don't remember that was a blowout and boring and he and Herbstreit both sounded three sheets to the wind and just mostly abandoned discussing the game at all.

2. The creepy comments about the girlfriend of the Alabama QB.

I feel like ESPN has been trying to get rid of him. They moved him off Big Monday and Saturday night football with Herbstreet to the SEC network, which no one cares about.

I'll miss the guy

I wonder if his comments about the OU player in the bowl game had anything to do with his retirement

Maybe he will broadcast the game with Vanderbilt?

"YOU, are looking live...."

I agree he could go over the top with him comments at times but the guy was a helluva announcer for as long as I can remember. He always had a great feel for the big moment without trying to make himself "the" moment. He really only got himself in trouble when he ventured away from what was actually happening within the game, which was getting to be more and more recently. I'm guessing his comments about Mixon were the final nail in the coffin, but any network that still has Vitale on the payroll probably shouldn't be putting anybody else out to pasture.

Thanks for the memories Brent.

I'll never forget his call of the ISU-Nebraska football game in 2002. He was homering big time for ISU and Seneca.

This was probably one of my favorite non-ISU BM moments.

I always enjoyed him and Fran or the rare occasion he'd call one of our football games.

I never appreciated how good he still was/is until watching the WCC tournament last year when he did back-to-back games. First was with Vitale, and Brent was locked in, calling the game, and doing an admirable job of reigning in Dickie V. Second game was with Fran, and he was immediately back in "Big 12" form.

He knew what he needed to do with each pardner, and did it flawlessly. Really impressive.
