4/20 update:

Here’s my guess on position starters (*) and minutes (200 total across five positions):

Point Guard: Ryan* (30-35), Jackson (5-10)

Wings/shooting guard (80 minutes across 2): Diew* (20), Belanger* (20), Bristow (20), Joens (10), New Portal Transfer

Forward: Brown* (30+), Diew (5-10)

Posts: Natabou* (25), Izzy (15), Crooks (10)

__
Portal need: shooting guard/wing/strong/tough perimeter defender — any chance to get Fritz to stay?

Roster looking much stronger with two portal additions. My hope is that even with new additions, that all five incoming freshman still get some playing time to develop.
I think Crooks will see more minutes than Izzy just because she is a scorer!

Isn’t Jalynn Bristow of “slight” build, along the lines of Ny Diew? Amongst the successful teams (with the exception of EIU), the 4’s and 5’s in today’s game have to bang. Ny isn’t big enough to bang and I fear Jalynn isn’t either.

If CBF can change his ways, a motion four guard position less offense could be interesting and fun, with Izzy, Audi and TBD in the post. Emily was once a scorer and we know she can shoot - take away the point responsibility and set her free!
Crooks will bang with the best of them

I’m hoping Emily at times will take the ball and look to just put the ball in the basket and really take on a scoring roll with all the youth we have she could really give us a solid 13-16ppg average

The potential is really going to be endless with this team. So excited about how it's shaping up- now I just hope everything falls into place as far as no injuries and everyone stepping up- especially the freshmen- hope they can just step up and adjust well to the college game!

The 6’3” Brown will play the 4/5 on defense and 3-5 on offense….

Here is the link to her post McDonald’s game interview where se self describes her reason for choosing Iowa State and says she can play the 3,4 or 5::
““I really picked Iowa State because of their style of play,” Brown said. “They have done great things with versatile players and I feel like that’s what I am. That’s my biggest strength is just being versatile and I can play the three, the four, the five, whatever they need me to play.”
Brown Post MDonald All American Basketball Game Article

While being a talented “big” that can stretch the floor, she has not played point any more than Ashley (who often many times a game brought the ball up and initiated the offense).

She has more size than Ashley and wouldn’t be surprised if she plays some minutes at the 5 (more related to guarding the other teams bigs) as she did in the McDonald’s game.

On her Twitter - where she explains why she chose Iowa State - she refers to herself as a “forward”
Addy Brown - self described “Forward” on her Twitter explanation of why she chose Iowa State

I see what you mean by the reference in the Gatorade POY write up, but I think that is an error.

With the addition at the 5, Brown will play a lot of 4 and some 3

She self describes herself as a forward with versatility to play 3-5. See links on post above.

This is most size and depth in a long time (maybe ever)…. Exciting to see how this all comes together.

Offensively she's a better fit at the 3 than Diew or Bristow so I think that's where she gets the bulk of her minutes.

I love your positivity but believe expectations should be tempered. The last freshman class with four top 100 recruits started slowly, and they were mixed in with an All American and other highly experienced starters (Kristin Scott, etc). Even if we stay healthy, which is never to be expected, there will be growing pains with having freshman and other inexperienced players on the floor. I’m hopeful we catch lightning in a bottle but I’ll settle for an upper half conference finish and over .500 record. Assuming we can keep the class together, we’re back to being competitive in year two of this cycle. JMHO

I agree -- for me, an NCAA bid next season would be a big win. I'm excited for next season, but that doesn't mean I have the same expectations I had this season. It can be fun to have a season where expectations aren't super high.

When considering future conference standings, remember this:

Final NET Ratings 22-23
12 Texas Big 12
15 Iowa St. Big 12
30 Kansas Big 12
31 Baylor Big 12
38 Oklahoma Big 12
46 Oklahoma St. Big 12
58 Kansas St. Big 12
59 West Virginia Big 12
73 Houston AAC
75 Texas Tech Big 12
109 BYU WCC
131 TCU Big 12
148 UCF AAC
194 Cincinnati AAC

WAYYYY too optimistic. Find game video (not just the highlights where she's constantly right next to the basket) and then mentally place her in a D-1 Big 12 where she's dealing with women that have more skill/size than the middle school looking competition that she dealt with in high school AND then throw in the fact that, at least at this point, does not have ANYWHERE the physical conditioning needed for the next level, to go up and down the court multiple times over and banging bodies with somewhat more comparable bodies.....shoot, Bill would have to rotate her and Izzy in and out every 2-3 game minutes to catch their breath & re-energize. Would love to be wrong, but have to be realistic at the moment and simply not expecting much at all from her in her first season in Ames.

Audi has soft hands and a good shooting touch. Also consider that she is 6’3”. And is very strong with bulk and eats up space. Plus Audi is a very good passer. Her size makes you think she is out of shape. She actually got up and down the floor pretty good IMO. She has played the AAU circuit and fared well. Audi is the type of player that takes coaching well. Audi’s work ethic is outstanding. Audi will be a freshman. So I expect some learning curve. But the potential is there. And she will likely back up our transfer. Not real worried about Audi.

Were you aware we added a 6'5 post that averaged 35 minutes last season? If Crooks can be effective in 3 minute spurts to begin the season and work up to 6 by conference she could easily give us 24 minutes a night which would be more than they'll need from her on a given night. Assuming you don't watch a lot of women's basketball because most of the top teams we played had an overweight post that usually tore us up.

Have you seen her AAU video or watched any of those games…I’d suggest doing that before downgrading her to a project. There is a reason she’s a top 100 player.

Sarcasm alert: JFC - I’m always amazed at what people will hone in on to nitpick - how silly to argue about minutes now, and it’s been going on for multiple pages!

Dude, it is the silly season for CF. Will last until the first football game when the silliness will maybe drop by 50%. The game threads will make up for it though. ;)
