We were honeymooning in Maui in 1997. It was the last day of our trip and I was putting gas in the rental car near the airport, wearing an ISU shirt, of course. Someone belted out,"Moo U, right on!" Dude came over and chatted with me. Was originally from Newton, attended ISU and,"Came out here to do some surfing, spring break '74, and never went back."

After moving to Colorado Springs last year, I ran into two Cyclone fans at Kum & Go right by my house within the first couple weeks I was here. One of them didn't speak english but we had an instant bond of another sort!

I saw a Cyclone fan while waiting to take off on a runway, sitting on a splashing toilet while chugging a shower beer. I was waiting for Chris to go on vacation after forgetting to pick up my kids from school. It was Tuff as Rain.

I’ve already posted but I wanted to say this was a great idea for a thread. I’m really enjoying reading these posts. Good job everyone.

The parking lot of a strip mall in Kittery, Maine.

Also, watched the ISU-Oklahoma game last season at a huge bar in Hoboken, NJ. There was one other ISU fan there that I ran into, and watched with. By the end of the game, there was a huge group of people invested in watching the game with us. Got some free drinks from some Jersey bros after the failed 2 point.

It's a lot of fun when the bar starts to rally around your team. This happened to me in San Diego a few years ago - the K-State Rhoads fumble game. It was pretty early out there and the bar had maybe 15 people in it, most sitting at the bar. Girlfriend had run a marathon that morning and was sleeping at the hotel; it was just me there. I'm shouting at the TV and a couple guys come over and start chatting. 10 minutes later the entire bar is around my table, shouting at the TV with me.

The fumble happened - rounds were purchased, I stayed WAY longer than i was supposed to have, they wouldn't let me pay my tab, and my (now angry) girlfriend had to deal with a hammered boyfriend at 3pm.

Most recently was a grocery store in the Portland, OR area, but like many here there's often one or two in airports.

Another note is if I'm wearing ISU stuff I tend to get positive comments about their teams.

West of San Jose in Costa Rica at the crocodile bridge. I had a Cyclone shirt on, met two people walking off the bridge while we we walking on and the husband yelled “Go Cyclones!” Found out the wife was a former middle school student of mine!

I got a "creative" from @ImJustKCClone and had to run to the passive/aggressive thread for the interpretation...now I'm a bit sad.

I've run into Cyclone fans in some remote places so often that none of them stick out. But I have a non-Cyclone encounter that was a weird one for me and especially my GF.

I flew out to San Diego with my GF years ago to visit my brother who lived in Cardiff by the Sea (now part of Encinitas) in the north county. He was still at work so we stopped at Yogi's in Cardiff (not there anymore) while we waited for him to get off. It was the GF's first ride on a plane and her first trip so far away from Iowa. Palm trees, the ocean, climate and that stuff had her eyes wide open.

We were seated at the bar for a long time. The GF goes to the bathroom and I strike up a conversation with the guy that had been sitting next to us. The GF comes back and finds us deep in conversation. Turns out this guy had once worked at the beef plant in my original hometown of Oakland, IA. I had also worked in that plant as a summer job during college.

What a small world it is. It really had my GF's head spinning to travel all that distance and run into a guy from my small hometown the first day we were there.

As others have said, I run into Cyclones everywhere. I always wear Cyclone gear when traveling and inevitably conversations occur.

A couple things stand out in my mind....

Last year I was in Kauai Hawaii for my 30th wedding anniversary. It was the weekend we were playing Iowa. Even though it was an afternoon game, the 5 hour time difference made it early morning. Could only find 1 sports bar on the entire island that was open. Arrived and there were 2 other tables of Cyclones. Didn't get to see much of the game due to the rain delays, (I'm in Hawaii, not gonna sit in a bar all day) but everyone in there was converted to a Cyclone fan by the time we left!

Another time was a long time ago. I was in Ann Arbor, Michigan as my wife was in a wedding. We arrived on Thursday which happened to be the infamous Texas game. Watched the game in the hotel bar, two other Cyclone fans were there. After the screw job by the refs, none of us bought another drink the rest of the night as the other bar patrons attempted to ease our pain. All weekend, wearing my ISU gear of course, I heard over and over from random people, man you guys got screwed.
