How could I EVER be a cocky fan, look at my fav teams:

Cyclones
Bears
Cubs

Nuff said.

At least someone else shares my pain. What I can remember, here is the best thing to come from my favorite teams to this point:

Cyclones - Insight.com Bowl win, Independence Bowl win. 2 near appearances in the Big 12 Championship (only to have heart ripped out both times so those are more painful than anything else)
Cubs - 2003 playoffs. (Heart ripped out after the Bartman incident).
Bears - 2007 Super Bowl. Thank god for this because if I didn't have that, it would have been 2 playoff appearances (both first game losses). I was only 3 when the Bears won the SB in 1986.

Those are some pretty meak high points.

I think most of it stems from the fans who say that they are Cubs fans, yet couldn't name 20 guys on the 25 man roster. A real fan should have no trouble doing that.

This brought up a pet peeve of mine. I LOVE the people who say that are a fan of a given team. Then you ask them if they have ever been to a game for said team. They say NO! How can you call yourself a fan and not even GO TO A FREAKIN GAME?

I see this all the time.

I haven't been able to attend an Iowa State FB game in the last ten years. I better turn in my fan card. Also my Grandfather followed the Cubs until he passed away at age 84, he knew all the players/stats/club records all of that, yet he never was able to make it to Wrigley. I guess he wasn't a fan either?

You can be faithful to a team and be a fan without attending a game.

As with just about anything, there are exceptions to every rule. Sorry to hear you Grandfather was unable to attend a game at Wrigley, I have been to 52 games there and it is probably one of my favorite places in the world.

The broad generalization in my post was more directed at those who see that said team seems to be winning some games. So that person then goes out and buys said team's hat/jersey/shirt and becomes a "HUGE FAN".

If the Cubs can keep hitting the ball well, they should have a legit chance. The Red Sox are probably as solid of a team this year but we know how they've performed. The Rockies are probably going to cool back to reality any time now. I'd say the Cubs or Red Sox, depending on which shows up.
