I'm at home one night watching Batman Begins and all of a sudden I start getting a bunch of calls and text messages. These messages say things like "Heyyy"..."Are u available?". Even got a few explicit picture messages. So I text one of the random numbers and ask where they got my number. They say from "the ad for escorts on backpage". So I quickly go to the site and look up escorts in my state. I search my phone number and sure enough, there is an ad with my phone number in it. And now I have been getting calls and text messages non stop for the past 2 days. I even emailed the person to fix their ad, but no luck. Anyone else ever experience something like this?

I had a buddy in High School that would get call's from Jerry's Homes in Des Moines. I think they put his number on some pamphlet.

One time I was with him and a person called with questions about the caulking in their shower tub. Needless to say, we had a blast with that.

That sucks man. Give it another couple of weeks and if the texts hold steady or increase, I'd change my phone number. Definitely not the texts you would want the gf or wife to see...

I have a friend who is a nanny and one time when she was looking for a job she put an ad on craigslist. Apparently "nanny" is (or at least was at one time) used a code for prostitute on craigslist and she received a bunch of respones asking for a titty pic, how much for a bj, etc.

"Hi, you've reached the voicemail of Chris Hansen. Leave your name, phone number, and current whereabouts after the beep. We'll be in touch."

Sounds like you should view the Lawyer rap ad thread I just put up...

Seriously though, you can file a complaint with the FCC. I had to do it a couple of years ago to get an autodialer stopped that kept calling me in the middle of the night, but they took care of it pretty quickly.

File Complaint | FCC.gov

Under Wired and Wireless telephone, there are several categories, and your issue could fit under several of them:

Telemarketing (including Do-Not-Call)
Prerecorded messages
Billing
Service
Privacy
Identity theft
Disability access
Number portability
Unlawful advertising
911 calls
Tower Light outages
Signal interference to other devices
Cell phone jammers

Thanks, but I've only gotten a few calls today, no texts. So it seems like it should stop soon

I don't know, sounds like an easy second job, I mean the hard part, getting your number out there is already taken care of. Free Advertising - run with it.
