That is the one bug I just cannot stand, nothing else really bothers me. If I ever got roaches in my house, it would "accidentally" get burned to the ground with all my stuff and I would have to start over.

I work in insurance fraud....I'll be watching you from now on....

I've had house centipedes come in the house in a bag of potatoes and a sack of sweet corn. They like to hitchhike, apparently.

The mystery of the millipedes is solved (Hopefully).

I had called Springer Pest Solutions about a week back. The guy came out and said there really isn't anything they can do for millipedes. He said for $80, they can do a 6' boundary around the house that should keep them at bay but that would need to be done monthly. I asked him how they were getting in and he says "oh, they can get in if they want". So I wasn't convinced. I went around my entire house checking for cracks or unsealed areas. Everything looked really tight.

I went back to the idea that perhaps they are already in my house and just come out and night. I had suspected the house plants before but only gave them and initial inspection with no findings. However, this time, I got a stick and started poking into the dirt of each plant. I poked into one plant and just underneath the surface, all the dirt was basically infested with millipedes. The whole plant looked like it was moving. It was quite disgusting. We tossed the whole plant last night. This morning, I have yet to see a stray millipede.

Dude...

Positive: You solved the millipede problem
Negative: Eww...

Once I solved our bug problem by throwing away a long forgotten box of waffle mix. That was a pretty disgusting find.

The odd thing is I asked the guy from Springer if it could be something to do with house plants. He said "oh no. They are coming in from the outside". I also asked how there can be so many to randomly wandering into the house. He said they are probably breeding in the house. I told him that the research I had done indicated that millipedes don't reproduce in homes and typically die quickly in homes due to lack of moisture. He says "is that true?" Some expert. Next time, I'll stick with Entomology websites. Iowa state actually has a really good one.

I don't explain 'em Mr. Seinfeld. I just exterminate them.

It's been my experience that guys like this have pretty limited knowledge. I'm sure he knows a lot about chemicals. Specific species of bugs, not so much.

Does this thread remind anyone else of the scene in the new King Kong movie where they are in the crevice and the huge ### bugs are coming from everywhere. Gore and blood never freak me out but that DEFINATELY did.

I once saw a big, fat looking spider next to a pond in southern Iowa. I dropped a rock on it and it exploded, releasing hundreds of tiny baby spiders. It hadn't occured to me that it was so fat because it was carrying egg sacks on its back, in fact, I didn't know any kind of spiders did that. Needless to say, THAT was creepy.

I think that's a creature viewed through an electron microscope, then photoshopped into a picture.

Edit: Just looked it up...nope, it's real. Wow.

Thats even creepier.

I was thinking it looked like something from an SEM, either way creepy as all get out

So there I was on Monday morning at about 6 am. I was in our downstairs bathroom putting some frosting on a urinal cake. Then I notice from the corner my eye something crawl out from behind the TP holder and onto the wall. Just a couple inches from my leg is 1 of these things and it's about 2 inches long. As I am deathly afraid of all things with more than four legs, it was like a scene out of a cartoon. I yell a few profanities, shut the stream off and launch myself out the door all in one motion, losing my glasses in the process. They're on the bathroom floor but I wasn't about to go in there without a fly-swatter and a can of Raid. So I went and obtained my trusty Raid & fly swatter and went back into that horror chamber to get my spectacles. The S.O.B. bug had escaped and thus delayed his execution...for now. Time to call an exterminator. Part of the price for warm weather I guess.

I call those "foot spiders" - we used to get them in our old apartment. They are the grossest bugs ever.

My parents had a house near the Skunk River infested with those things.
