So I see that we have:
Championship
Long
Reader
Varner
Zabriskie

Consulations (for 3rd)
Fanthorpe
Mueller
Burk

Consulations (for 7th)
Ward
Thompson?

If that is correct, we still have a decent chance at this. All four wrestlers have a chance at winning their weight classes with Long and Reader having the toughest tests. Fanthorpe and Burk have a good chance for 3rd. The Long/McDoungh match may be the most critical. If Long wins he may be in the running for most outstanding with pins/forfeits all the way to this point.

We have 1 (Mueller -- guaranteed 6th but can get 3rd) still in the cons., and Ward guaranteed 8th but going for 7th (only worth 1 team point I believe plus major/fall point if relevant).

Fanthorpe also still has the chance for 3rd
Sheesh -- me really stupid sometimes.

Burk also.

So:

Long, Reader, Varner, Z in finals. Guaranteed 2nd. I believe 3 team points to the winner (plus major/fall point if applicable).

Fanthorpe, Burke, and Mueller alive in the cons. bracket. Guaranteed 6th but can get 3rd.

Ward will wrestle for 7th, guaranteed 8th.

(Hope that's right this time.)

that is what I could get from the brackets and listening - not going to be perfect. but those are the matches that both have chances for.

We have 4 in the finals, 3 who can get 3rd at best, and 1 more who can get 7th right? not bad at all. if we had gallick i'd bet we'd have 5 in the finals.

Not to play Scrooge here because I'm actually really happy with the way the team is wrestling in the tournament, I truly thought Iowa would win going away (which they still might). However, Fanthorpe losing was a killer. Having a 5-3 advantage on finals wrestler's over Iowa would obviously be big in terms of points and may get the job done, especially with Nick being the top seed. Iowa will clearly be favored in all their matches. Long's pin was a pleasant surprise, just hope he can hang with McDonough better than he did in the dual. And a pin from Varner would be huge.

Supposedly on the radio they were talking that Long was really hampered in the dual from a flu bug and is now wrestling much better now.

Updated team standings?

Here is the most recent that I saw: Through 157lb wrestle backs:

Iowa 133.5
Iowa State 112

Doesn't include the 6 points for wins by Varner, Reader or Z but the Hawks had Borschel and Gambrall win so ISU picked up at least 2 more points.

That's good to hear and I hope you are right Clonehomer, I have been holding out hope ever since Long signed with the Clones that he would be a stud at 125, hopefully we'll find out tonight!

Not sure if we win the Midlands?

But, ISU has improved its Rankings based on Today's performace. I see Long, Mueller, Ward and Burk moving up the Rankings. Before the year, I did not expect much production out of those (4), but now I think (3) of these kids could be AA.

I don't think all of those you've listed for Iowa are scoring . . ? They started the day with 7 and 2. Unless Kerr wasn't scoring. So they should be 3 and 5 . . ?

Still advantage to Iowa. But you have to win to get points.
