I currently have Mediacom, but it seems as if their prices are getting out of hand. I got a flyer the other day that said Direct TV was having some good deals. I am thinking about switching, but wanted to get some more info. before we do so.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We made this exact switch right before Christmas, With Mediacomm we did not have HDTV, just a basic package for around $68 per month with no DVR, we switched, got 3 receivers, 2 HDTV DVR's and will be paying less than Mediacomm. I have missed a few Cyclone Basketball games since that were broadcast on MC 22, but in hind sight I didn't miss much:(

I swore off mediacom 3 years ago with the dispute with their fox channels(sinclair). Went with Dish Net. and haven't been happier since. I do miss the connections channel (22) on mediacom but that is it.

It's a switching game. They all give you good deals when you first sign up and then jack them up once they have you on their equipment. We just switched the exact opposite way and are now paying about half of what we were paying for Direct TV. In a year and a half we will likely switch back to save money once Mediacom jacks up our rates.

I must say we were also getting fed up with Direct TV due to reception. Everytime we had rain or snow the reception of about half our channels would go to &%^$. Several of our friends have not had this issue nearly as often but ours was continuous and despite several trips out DTV could never get it corrected. Of course they never showed up in bad weather.....

Good luck with whatever you choose but if you want to keep your rates low be prepared to switch often.

Unless you are a 100% must have the NFL Sunday Ticket, you should consider Dish Network. Dish Network has MLB, NCAA Basketball, NBA, NCAA Football packages. I have two HD DVRs for 4 TVs. Each DVR can record about 160 hours of TV time. I spend $83 per month.

Leidang: if you are losing signal that easy... there is an issue. Either something is in the way or the dish isn't set right. I lose signal at the most 2 times a year. It takes a down pour or a nasty nasty blizzard with plate sized snow flakes.

Can you get the ISU FB games that are on FSN on Dish?

I go to the home games and don't recall if any others were even on TV so I can't say. The Big XII TV package stinks regardless.

If they are on FSN, yes, usually in the 400's channels.

Thanks I was thinking about switching but wasnt sure about it due to the games being on Direct. I like to DVR the games even if I go to them.

I currently pay $117 per month for Mediacom digital cable with HD and internet. This seems to be getting a bit ridiculous, however mediacom's internet is great and if you pay just for internet I think it is $39.99 a month so it makes sense for me to stick with mediacom for the time being. Not to thread hijack, but what do other people use for internet in Ames and what do you pay a month?

I pay about $100 for Direct alone. I think my internet is around $40.

I like how it seems like everyone with Mediacom pays different rates. I have the same items you do through Mediacom (basic expanded digital cable, one digital box with HD, no DVR, and internet) and I pay $149 right now. Its steadily been going up over the past few years and it had started at about $114.

Dish does have FSN but they don't have FCS which carried quite a few games the last 2 years.

I have internet, expanded basic, HD DVR, and the sports pack and I pay $135 a month

I've noticed this as well. I think it comes down to how long you have had the service. Mediacom is a screwy company in that the longer you have given them your money the more you have to pay them. Seems like it should be the other way around.
