NFL network doesnt play nice with the cable cos. they usually demand to be on a basic tier, forcing EVERYONE to pay for it, whether they want it or not.

Thx.

Mediacom caved on the Big10 network. How about moving that out and bringing NFL to everyone.

I'd at least watch that ...

If I remember correctly, when Rutgers played in the Insight Bowl there was a similar issue in the NY/NJ area, and a deal was worked out between the NFL Network and the cable company/companies to air it.

well, I find the fact that they said home markets, plural, promising. Chris, will you be keeping fairly abreast of this story?

When I was in high school my parents in Marion switched to mediacom for internet and it has worked fantastically, usually around 5-8mb. My girlfriends family who also lives in Marion has qwest dsl and they get about 1mb.

I for one am would also be in favor of mediacom putting it state wide. My parents don't have the money to go and were planning on having all of my grandparents and such over to watch the game at their house.

Okay, I've always had Mediacom so can someone please fill me in on why they suck and Direct TV and satelite are so much better?

They are constantly raising their rates. I fully intend to swicth to direct tv once Qwest gets dsl in my area after the first of the year. The only redeeming factor for mediacom is they have the mc22 channel for local sports.

I agree you would think some central Iowa affiliate could pick this up, it is not like Iowa is a major market to the NFL!

True that the mediacom speed is around 5-8 Mbps. My folks generally get 7 Mbps but they advertise up to 12 Mbps. You can also get 3 or 20 Mbps too.

Qwest has a bunch of different levels. 1.5 Mbps is their basic, but they also have 7, 12 and 20 Mbps all with similar pricing to mediacom with and without bundling (if i remember right). I have the 12 Mbps and regularly get ~11 Mbps.

It may not even be a Mediacom decision. The last few years, a local station (usually a Fox affiliate or independent) has gotten the NFL Network broadcast. Whatever the local stations do isn't necessarily influenced by Mediacom.
