I have had much better experience with Mediacom than Qwest. When we first got our house we wanted Quest and to bundle Direct TV and get the bundled discount. After the installer missed two appointments that I had to leave work for, he finally came over and said he couldn't put in a dish because of our trees and we need to get Cable. So I call Qwest and told them that since I couldn't get DirectTV I wanted to cancel. They said no, I agreed to a full year and have to pay full price for internet now for a year. So not only could I not bundle Cable now, I am paying full price for both. Then we get our first bill and they charge us for phone too! They claimed we entered a verbal agreement on phone for a year which we have no use for, and they can't back it up that we agreed on that...

I have honestly had NO problems with Mediacom. We even had an outage that was totally my fault (weed wacker)and they fixed it after hours, no charge...

I have had a taste of everything...yes even Dishnetwork with my parents when I lived at home and I can tell you all customer service pretty much has 30-40% of the people working there sucking. That is the way life is.

Qwest must have gotten much better, I could tell stories for about an hour about the absolute HORRORS I had with them on a BUSINESS account, let alone my personal accounts.

Luckily I don't deal with them at all anymore.

A friend of mine says he's been having problems with Qwest on a business account lately, but I haven't had any major problems with them on my residential account.

My only complaint with Qwest CS stems from my wife and I getting married and adding my name to her already existing account. We called to have her name changed and me added as an authorized customer, but on three separate occasions since then--twice when moving and once when adding internet to the existing phone account--they didn't recognize me as being authorized to make changes, and at least one or two of those times didn't they have her new name on file. Each time she had to get on the phone to verify her identity and state that she was authorizing me to make the changes.

Also, we've been married almost three years and we still haven't appeared in the phone book with our current names listed together, although we don't necessarily mind not having our names out there.

Other than that, things with Qwest have been fine.

Are prices with dish(cable and HD package) comparable to Mediacoms...after hearing all of this, I'm comtemplating on switching over either to dish or directv...Thanks in advance

I get DirecTV's Choice Xtra Plus HD-DVR. It's a little more than I was paying for Mediacom's Digital Basic, but after switching internet from Mediacom to Qwest I'm paying a comparable amount for TV and internet service combined.

EDIT: If you don't get internet from Mediacom or do but don't want to disconnect it, you could probably get a smaller channel package from DirecTV that still includes HD for a price that's about the same as or less than Mediacom's cable rates. If you want a referral to get $10 off the first five months, PM me.

Just an FYI - my cable internet with Mediacom was doing the same thing about a month ago, just running so slow I couldn't even surf the net. Then one day after having a lot of experiences like you did it just got better. Really bizarre.

I agree that my 2 times I have called into Qwest they were friendly, one time the girl even conferenced me in accidentally on the conversation between the 2 employees about my internet problem and didnt realize for like 5 minutes, they were trying to figure out what was wrong and to my surprise didnt talk about me badly and solved the problem quickly...it's my internet and I want it now!

The only reason I keep Mediacom is for Cyclone replays and State of the Nations on Mediacom Channel 22.

Here, here.

Starting a thread on a cable company's poor service? What's next? A thread asking if anyone noticed that the grass in green at Jack Trice?

It's a given. It's a shame. IT SUCKS! But for me as a Cyclone and local sport's team fan, I have to appreciate the connections channel and the fact that Mediacom brings us the programming that these satellite companies don't. Heck...now that Iowa as the BTN, connections is the only thing ISU has comparable for game replays, classic games, etc that the BTN brings to their market's teams.

Bottom-line: I support the cable company despite their crappy service but because they support our team and other local teams. The satellites are AWOL and providing this and this is enough for me.

That makes me wonder, has DirecTV or Dish ever given any ad money to Iowa State?

Probably not directly, but local dealers/installers may have donated money. Just guessing. I'll admit that Mediacom giving money and coverage to ISU is a plus, but it's about the only thing they have going for them in my book, and quality of service is more important to me.

I like the replays and state of the nations sometimes, but I don't really watch it enough to really make it worth it. It's only a matter of time until I switch to DirectTV, too many of my friends have had positive experiences with them.

I have never dealt with Mediacom, but knowing that everyone seems to hate them, why doesn't everyone just drop them. I think they would finally get the hint.

Those are little things but they help build the fan base. I'd urge people to not lose sight of this.

Again...strickly for selfish reasons as a Cyclone fan, I'll keep my cable as the satellite companies do ZERO to support the cause.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any problems with Mediacom's CS. I don't think I've even been on hold for more than 5-10 minutes either. Huh.

I have been waiting for about 5 months for a HD cable box. I call them about once a month and they keep telling me that the factory cant produce enough to meet the demand, but then I wonder how come other companies, ie directv, dish, qwest, can keep up. Probably because they actually increased production instead of keeping the same amount coming out as they did in 2003.

I finally called back after doing some technical digging and told the rep that their DNS servers were the problem and that they needed a tech to look into it. He said that they can only escalate a problem once 5 or more customers within a few block radius report the problem - otherwise corporate doesn't consider it a possible fault with their network:rolleyes:

Anyway, I circumvented Mediacom's DNS servers by using OpenDNS and my connection is screaming like it's supposed to. But don't tell Mediacom because it's not their fault:wink:

Mediacom - Horrible Customer "Service" (Hung Up On x2)

We've had terribly slow cable internet for about a week now so I started calling in to customer service on Sunday night. After waiting on hold for well over an hour, I hung up and decided to try Monday night. On Monday night, I got a busy signal for about 20 minutes when trying to call repeatedly - then I finally got through the number and waited for well over an hour again before hanging up. So today I called while at work and after waiting for 30 minutes, I finally go through to somebody.

Once they finally answered, I told them my problem and he put me on hold for about 10 minutes. He came back and said nothing was wrong and that was all he could do. I asked to speak to a manager and he said they weren't going to help me. I said, can you have a manager call me back and he hung up on me. After I called back in and got a hold of a supervisor on the cable side, they transferred me back to the same guy that hung up on me - and he did so again.

So my lesson for the day - "customer service" is still just a poor excuse for telling customers that you don't care about them, just their money.

Best feeling ever.... dropping Mediacom and telling them to shove it.

Nothing ticks me off more than "rules" that are made by bureaucrats or committees.

I'd say 99% of my life frustrations are caused by non-thinking morons who follow rules whether they make sense or not....

Call them and tell them that you are switching to Direct TV unless you get a HD Box in a week. They will get you the box. I was told the exact same thing by Mediacom, so I told them about two friends who threatened to switch and they got the box. The CS Rep assured me this wasn't the case so I asked to speak with her manager. She put me on hold for 10 minutes, came back and said a manager wasn't available but they would have the box installed within the next week.

I'm sure people who are signing up for Mediacom today are getting an HD Box, why should new customers be able to get one and not exsisting?

By the way I have since dropped Mediacom and went with Direct TV.
