Our body language was awful to start the 2nd half. McKay and Thomas deserve credit for bringing positive energy because nobody else seemed to be trying.

BDJ? Dude was out if it completely.
He's looked like that the last couple of games.
Not sure what's going on, but he looks very disinterested.
His demeanor on the bench is lazy too. Doesn't stand up with the rest of the team when big plays happen, yawning, just looks like he doesn't even care.

Not to be "that guy" but I FULLY believe if McKay was playing last year, Iowa State would have won the National Championship. He is exactly what last year's team needed!

He was cheering on the team at times tonight. He has to have a lot of things going on in his head, he isn't in the situation he thought he would be in when he chose to come to Ames.

Yea, I don't want to sound like I'm being too hard on him. It's just obvious he has talent and can help the team, but at this point, if you aren't confident in your role, it's not likely to click now. Right now, Thomas is giving us more.

I think he said our own team was disrespecting our seniors by playing the way they were. Something about how the team is a fist and can't be broken... Georges really made it sound like McKay was the main guy talking and trying to get guys heads in the right spot.

BDJ was sitting on the bench by himself during halftime warmups, totally disengaged. Finally went out and put up a shot or two near the end but he sure looks like he's checked out.

Understandable imo. You think he would have gone in had he been jumping up and down like a walk on?

BDJ can stay on the bench. We need team players and it appears by his body language it's all about him.

If he put in any form of a decent effort with consistency he'd be playing. The situation he is in is his own doing.

He exactly fills what we needed in our Maryland loss...the other losses were more about us shooting like crap or letting the other team shoot open 3s. The Maryland loss was that we couldn't stop anybody inside and we couldn't score at the rim either. McKay gets that done against them.

McKay's last 8 games:

32.8 minutes
14.1 points (61.4FG% 67.2FT%)
9.8 boards
2.8 blocks

if he averages 14/10/3 on the season next year, he's 1st team BigXII.

His FG% would be among national leaders but he has to play in 75% of our games to qualify for NCAA record keeping...which only happens if we win both tournaments. Not saying that's realistic, just the math is he'd be at exactly 75% if we win out.

I haven't checked lately but for his first 10 games or so he was near the national leaders in blocks per game too.

He scored 16 against Texas in Austin less than two weeks ago?

I'm surprised by this just as much as anybody...

Last three games:

MIN: 23, 12, 8
PTS: 6, 0, 0

I would think he will still have a place to play in the drama of our season. It's not like we lack other options with Long and Thomas around, but BDJ at his best was *really* good (torching Arkansas and Georgia State and being huge in games against Baylor, Kansas, Texas, TCU, OU, WVU, and Texas again).

Even if he's not going to the NBA, he's got to know the reputation is following him, and you can make a good living (and have a heck of a lot of fun) playing in Europe. He should at least think to play for that?

People forget early in the year. The Iowa boards have people saying our game would have been closer if BDJ was playing...as if they missed what he did to a very athletic Arkansas team and a solid Georgia State backcourt with NBA hopefuls. Early in the year it was definitely a break to not have to face him...like you said just last week Texas would have loved to not play against BDJ as he torched them in their house.

What's frustrating to me is that he seems to now have a very short leash. I didn't think the shots he took today were bad shots, they were the same shots Thomas and Long were taking. He also tried to make an assist to McKay which ended up in a travel and grabbed 2 rebounds in those 8 minutes. The situation he is currently in just adds more pressure to his game, as he knows that if he misses a couple of shots, he is out of the game and might not come back.

It'll be interesting what comes out between now and TCU. I'm sure people will ask if he is fighting injuries or anything else.

Before we even played a game we all knew our best team would be if McKay was the type of player we had to start...which meant at least 1-3 very talented guys coming into the year were going to be coming off the bench.

While I still feel that we go as Georges' goes, I heard more than just last night's story about McKay being a leader. I was amazed at what I heard and how he has taken it upon himself to lead this team, whether that be to lead by example or get into guys. Gave me even more respect for Jameel and I already had alot.
