could someone explain to me how a 26 year old that's 3/4 years out of college would have such a firm grasp on the northeast players like so many of you are implying?

because he's 26 yrs old and only a few years out of college. i think he may have something called friends. those are people you can call who know who you are and usually are willing to help you out.

It might have something to do with his experience working summer camps at places like Kansas, North Carolina, and UCLA. You don't get invited into places like that if you don't have something to offer. The camp circuit is probably one of the best opportunities that there is to build contacts and relationships that can pay off in the recruiting department.

Anybody with any sort of minimal basketball credentials ("I'm the manager at St. John's!") and a willingness to work long hours for nominal pay can get "invited" to work at just about any camp in the country.

I like this hire, especially if we can close on some more talented East-coast kids.

I still can't quite figure out, though, why our assistants have to be ranked and paid different amounts.

I think that would be kinda disappointing

This would be a great hire young very energetic guy who the plyers love. He will be an awesome recruiter sho Tj has mentored. Awesome hire and huge upgrade of Mcroy who really did not bring us anyone.

People put way too much stock into playing careers and "knowing" the game. Mike Leach didn't play college ball and he is considered a genius.

Our beloved Frank Martin was a high school coach two years before he became an assistant at K-State

Matt obviously has an it factor because we have some amazing leads on kids for the 2012 class in the Northeast. I highly doubt Matt's duties this past year revolved around his stapler and a fax machine.

I demand that the hires seek my approval despite the fact I know nothing about the situation or the people involved.

Recruiting we seem to be close to even to the last staff with Lutz and McRoy, maybe a little behind, but in terms of X&O's it looks like we are severely behind now with Matt and Mann.

Disagree with the recruiting aspect. I don't think that Lutz even recruited other than players he was already after while at Charlotte. McRoy was supposed to be an ace JUCO recruiter, but either he didn't do a great job there or ISU decided they didn't want to go after JUCOs. I think that this staff with Matt and Mann is going to be miles ahead of the prior staff recruiting-wise. Just wait till Matt gets loose on NYC.
