Okay, just to clarify for those of you who feel like innocent people should die due to stupidity... appearently they guys were horsing around in the hallway, pushing and shoving eachother without any intention of physical harm- just having fun. Boys being boys. As his friend pushed him into the elevator doors, his back was against the CLOSED DOORS of the elevator while the body weight caused the doors to open where he fell backwards down the shaft. The only way something like this could happen is from poor construction and/or a faulty elevator; just as someone stated in an earlier post. It's a college and I'm sure the elevators aren't in tip top shape. Think about it. Why would someone just walk right into a open elevator shaft where the elevator car isn't even present? Simple answer: they don't. And even if the doors were left open leading to a 7-story drop, the elevator should be blocked off. The death would then solely fall in the hands of the school making it completely responsible for his death due to how dangerous the building is. Elevator doors should NEVER be left open without a car present to walk right into. If a blind man was walking down that hall, he would fall to his death too. It's common sense people. The elevator was not in proper working condition and a poor guy fell to his accidental death where his friends had to witness the whole thing. If the select few of you are going to have the ignorance to say that people are stupid and therefore die due to their stupidity, then you might as well call the contactor, construction workers who built the elevator and school board stupid for allowing an elevator in improper working condition to be used without an out of order sign on it. Or MAYBE the school was unaware of the elevator's poor conditon, just like him. Elevator doors don't just open like that unless it is not working properly. I just found this all out tonight by a close friend of the guys and the man who died. There were enough witnesses to drop all charges of manslaughter against the guy's best friend who pushed him while playing around and had to witness him fall to his death. It was a freak accident. And these things do happen in real life.
