Wrong. He died right after the plane took off as shown. He was always the main guy. The leader, the one everyone looked to for leadership which is why he was the last to come in.

So did Jack die at the exact same time that he would have died at had the plane crashed on the island?

Actually, they were all already "dead."...that plane taking off was still limbo. We don't know who died first, last, whatever. We do know who joined them last, and that was Jack.

I don't think thats correct either. Jack was just the last to get enlightenment and move on in the sideways world.

yeah, I get the alternate timeline was a "purgatory" of sorts where they needed to remember their lives and move on. However, I just don't understand what the island is then. I really don't get it. Feels like they ended the show too early and didn't explain it well enough.

Are you joking? Everything about the Island was shown to the viewers.

So did they all die when 815 originally crashed? is that why during the closing credits they showed the original crash site but no survivors?

No. They just showed the old site for emotional impact, bringing us back to the roots of the story. Everything that happened on the island did happen.

Seriously thought the finale made it all clear.

The plane he saw was Lapidus, Kate, Sawyer, Claire, and Miles.

Ah, gotcha.

So should we think of it like this... All the stuff that happened on the island happened. Jack dies in the jungle. The people on the plane flew away back to their homes and lived out their lives and died eventually. Hurley found a way to get Desmond home and he lived his life with Penny, etc. Eventually Hurley found a succesor to take over for the island and he and Ben died. Then after they were all dead they met up with all their other dead friends (including those who died early on in the series) and they "moved on" together to Heaven, possibly. And their actions on the island saved all humanity.

I really don't think there's any question that the events on the island really happened, and that whole timeline for that matter. With Jack and Kate leaving to raise Aaron and all that, I think all that stuff happened

Yes, that is what happened.

I think that's an excellent synopsis.

I wonder what kind of life richard lived off island, seeing as how he hadn't been off the island for the last 1.5 centuries.....:pcute:

Nope, I believe you are incorrect. The island happened. Christian told Jack that some died before him and some died after him. The Sideways world was 'purgatory'.

Maybe... while I could believe that Juliet hitting the bomb killed them all after they survived the plane crash..

You have to go back to the final shot where it shows the pieces of the plane on the beach like in season 1. They cleaned that up in season 1 remember? In "sideways world," nothing happened to kill them (except juliet hitting the bomb). So if that's the case, why would they show a scene where nobody cleaned up wreckage? Because there were no survivors

Maybe they died in both timelines but because they were all supposed to die, no matter in what timeline.

:) This is why I like stories where not all questions are answered. What would be the fun in that?

He was shown to have travelled often the island quite a bit. He is the one who recruited Juliet to the island.

Just because people from Lost weren't at the Church with them doesn't mean that they went to hell or wherever. Christian stated that they are all together because they had the greatest impacts on each others lives, so probably most of the other people were with their family members, wives, etc.
