if he was in a union, that never would have happened.

everything i have been afforded has been due to a union, and i honestly would not have had much if my dad was a scab.

This attitude is why the traditional unionized businesses cannot make it without huge government subsidies.

Believe it or not, there are actually people in this world who make good livings without resorting to legalized extortion aka "union activity".

Calling non-union labor "scabs" kind of ticks me off.

No offense, but you probably didn't handle that very well. Why burn bridges?

maybe he shouldn't have hung up in them but I wouldn't have given answer either. Sorry....he is no longer being paid by them.

After being laid off, I've answered questions about work I left behind. I see no reason to hold grudges against the people stuck doing my work on top of theirs.

However, if the question was general system usage that should be learned through education/training/experience, then I would not answer it without being paid a consulting fee. This holds true especially if the question would take considerable time.

True maybe I should have just given the answers-and make that person look better? What I was trying to state with that, Is they let the wrong person go. I was the caboose that kept the train together. I just felt like a kick in the coin purse when they called about somethings that they should have learned in school and back when I showed them how to do it earlier. They never cared about my welbeing. All the employees that they hired are still wet behind the ears. They will see there mistake and say "Dammmmmnnnn " Let the wrong person go. I hope

Yes it was something that was "general system usage that should be learned through education/training/experience". It dealt with operation of Excel and programs that I made from it that they would not purchase from me. They could make the same program except the person knew nothing about how to set it up. Basic if/ then statements

Layoffs and letgos have happened in my family although not recently. I do hope your road gets smoother in the coming days. Lets not make this into a union/no union discussion. Not all jobs offer that option.

Dave. it doesn't matter what their problem was, you did the right thing. As far as burning bridged goes; were you going to try to get hired back at this place? **** NO! The people there who are worth a **** will remember that you were good and that's what matters. Those people are who you can count on for a reference.

A. Instead of him being laid off, the entire company would have gone under. That's clearly a better option.

B. You have NO idea if that is the case. you could well be better off.

Unions have their place. That place is roughly in the early 20th century.
