Lon Kruger to Oklahoma

every year a school gets suckered into making the "retirement package" hire. Kruger, age 59, just got himself $15 million over the next 6-7 years. should be just about time to retire when he's locked that in.
Rumor has it that Lon Kruger was forced out at K-State for having an affair with a cheerleader. On a side note; Steve Alford was reportedly having an affair with his secretary while he was at Iowa. Just speculation but I have heard both of those rumors from a number of different people on a number of different occasions.

I had season tickets for UNLV this winter as I was in Vegas, and was very impressed with the job he did as coach. They played very good defense. Offense lacked spacing and they depended a bit too much IMO on the 3. But the team seemed to buy into the team thing and played together. He will build their program given time.
Lon Kruger is a solid, proven coach and Oklahoma is a great program. I am sure they will be back in the Tournament in 2-3 years. However, $2.2MM/year is too much for someone who is not a top recruiting type of coach anymore. No doubt the Cyclones will at a minimum, get more wins per dollar out of Coach Hoiberg at $800,000/year than OU will get out of Lon Kruger.
Lon Kreuger is a great basketball coach BUT....Good Luck playing second fiddle to Oklahoma Football which takes up All the Oxygen in the State of Oklahoma...

When GM split for Creighton, Kruger was one of the first coaches I thought about.
I'm excited about the Hoiberg direction, so I wouldn't quibble there ... but if you were going for a "results" route, Kruger was worth considering. Of course, ISU would never fork over $2M.
I doubt Kruger ever makes another Final Four, but you can probably expect a lot of tournament teams and possible Sweet 16 runs.

He has taken the route we have in sucking up transfers. His UNLV team had transfers from:
Kentucky
UCLA
Memphis State
And more. The other thing that he will probably be able to be more successful at is recruiting out of the Basketball Prep School of Vegas, (I can not remember the name, but it is consistently loaded) as many of the players did not want to be in the MWC.
