I've been on a kick of listening to local Iowa bands, and was wondering what you guys have for a good band to see/listen to from the area. Currently, I've been listening to Destrophy, Mindrite, Di-Fi (Omaha), Murder by Death (Indianapolis), and Heartset Self Destruct (Chicago).

There's another band from the DSM area that I can't think of right now that is good as well. What local/up-and-coming bands are on your radars?

The Envy Corps, Mumford's, and Radio Moscow are my top central Iowa bands, although I haven't been following the scene too closely in the last few years.

The Nadas.

They were up and coming 10 years ago, now they just live off that.

The Pimps - Rockford, IL
Trip Hazzard - KC, Mo
Leftwich - Davenport
Wicked Liz and the Belly Swirls - Davenport

They've all been around awhile, but they all rock in my opinion.

the go easy

Not sure if they're still playing together. The bass player was one of my roomates in college, and I know the drummer pretty well. We'd jam in the living room of the house we lived in on Hyland back in the day. Always partied at his (drummer's) place on Hayward.

Last I'd heard the drummer was li.ving in Iowa City and it was tough for everyone to get together and play around Des Moines. Sounds like they had/were going to disband. Some of the guys from the Go Easy have been playing as Pho and with the Scott Larson Band.

They were a freaking awesome party/bar band though.

Envy Corps is one that I've heard before. Really like their sound. They remind me of a mix between Modest Mouse and Radiohead. Seems like a really experimental band.

Public Property and Mr. Baber's Neighbors are both good. I think they're both from the IC area.

Nowhere and Everywhere
The Nadas.

Am I one of the only people in Iowa who really doesn't get all the love for the Nadas. I have friends that go crazy for them and I have yet to hear anything from them that I find worth listening to. Not saying it's bad music but nothing that stands out and they sound like about 100 other bands I've heard.

I can't tell if this is a terrible attempt at making fun of me, or if you are just a DB.

I literally didn't know Mindrite was still together. I'm from Indianola and I can remember going to Mindrite shows in high school, I guess I just figured they were done. Not a bad band though...
