His special teams were phenomenal in the early years. Heck, we were an onside kick legend.

The failing years had so many problems that I can't remember anything on the special teams. I wouldn't be surprised if they were essentially fine and just overshadowed, but I wouldn't be surprised by dumpster fire stuff, either.
CPR had "ONE" winning season with Danny Mac and Chizik players going 7-6 with two of those wins being a squeaker one point win against Minnesota (this game included 4 Cyclone turnovers and being outgained by the Gophers) and the famous 8 turnover Nebraska game.

I remember and appreciate the OSU and TCU wins during CPRs tenure but there was never any consistent success beyond 2009. The ceiling was 6 wins and a one-sided bowl loss to the likes of Rutgers and Tulsa (a team easily defeated during the same season). The ceiling was lowered to 3 wins after the 2012 season.

Here are two callbacks for everyone from those CPR special teams:

-2010: Having the holder throw for a two-point conversion into the wind against Nebraska, this game also included a missed FG.

-2015: Hooked FG miss against CMC and Toledo when the ball was not centered on the final running play. Later same that year Bill Snyder runs a play to center the ball for his kicker to win in regulation

Poor O-Line play
Not taking chances downfield
Poor playcalling
Special teams, especially kick and punt coverage
Weird/stupid unforced mistakes(bad drops, bad snaps, dropped INTs, missed sacks leading to other teams getting 1st downs)
Penalties at dumb times
Poor defense at the end of the 1st half
Losing on the final drive of the game

I love Campbell but holy **** how do we have so many constant problems year to year.
That last one is the killer!

What's being overlooked is he's a very good coach that won 6 national titles. It was D3, but if you get the athletes and keep things simple to put them in the right spots with the right mindset, you can win at other levels.

There's not a bunch of nonsense and him explaining his culture and all that crap. He's preparing young athletes to play a football game which can be as simple as it looks.
Not overlooking he's a great coach - just that many winning coaches from lower levels have come and gone without the success at this level.

This just makes me feel...bad.

Duh!
With all this so called “experience” on the oline, there has been no improvement ever. Fire Meyers or demote him after this year and get a real oline coach
I think this is the most logical and reason able next step.

Youth and lack of experience have nothing to do with any of this.

We were loaded last year with our most veteran and experienced team ever….. and made all these same idiotic mistakes and play calls, and bad OL, and ST’s, penalties, and the list goes on and on.

It’s this coaching staff folks. And the funny thing is…. I think we need to keep CMC at all costs because I’ve resigned myself to thinking this is just the best it can get at ISU.

We’re getting good talent at least, which alone is getting us to some bowl games. I just have to understand that we are generally going to waste this talent and not ever take the next step. Just be happy with getting between 6-8 wins most years.

That sums it up. Little improvement in these areas over the years.

EVERY SINGLE COACH HAS ISSUES. Campbell has no more than anyone else.

For ***** sake, you guys want to run off the best coach we’ve ever had—-BY FAR. You’ll all get what you deserve when he takes the god damned Nebraska job.

Please point me to where anyone said he should be fired. Saying "hey, this is an issue and has been for a long time, maybe we should look into fixing it because it costs us games every god damn year" is a lot different than saying fire Campbell

Kindly **** the hell off please

Kindly **** the hell off as well. You aren’t some football genius. If you know so much, you should be doing his job. Since you just ***** on here about him, it’s obvious your talent lies elsewhere.

The point is moot anyway. I’m guessing you’ll have a new coach to ***** about soon enough.

He has a lot of great qualities for sure. But the problems that we are seeing in these games -- time and time again -- can be laid directly at Campbell's feet. We are never going to get better unless he improves, personally or by delegating responsibility to people who are better. We're also never going to get better until he cleans house of our current offense coaches and hires a special teams coach.

These have been problems for years. They aren't getting fixed. At some point, something needs to give, or else we all need to accept that our program has already peaked under Campbell. And do we really want to settle for almost winning? Just always being, what, three or four bone-headed calls away from a conference championship appearance or, god forbid, a CFP appearance?

Tell me where Im wrong please instead of flying in here crying that someone dare ask questions of a coach who's flaws are obvious even though he still wins. I cant wait to hear all your intelligent counter points.

5-14 in toss up games and 12-19(I think that was it) in 1 score games is something to wonder instead of burying my head in the sand and pretending everythinf is ok

As I said in a different thread, being the best coach in our history is a bar so low you cant even trip over it
Reminded me of what Major Winchester once said in an episode of M.A.S.H.; “It is rather like being called the best ballerina in Galveston”.

He's still only 42 years old. I'll take 6-8 wins each year and roll the dice that he gets things figured out and we jump up from time to time.

So you aren’t calling for Campbell to be fired. You just constantly ***** about everything. Constantly. Kansas deserves some credit for playing well. The play knocking the perfectly thrown TD pass knocked out of Hutchinson’s hands was the big difference. It was a great play by the Kansas defender. Usually Hutchinson always is able to hold on. Kansas was fortunate. Not gonna place blame on X. Great play by Kansas.

So you have ranted. And ranted. And ranted. Do you ever stop?

I wonder if we are the first team to ever beat a team by 50 or more points and then lose the next game. Probably not but it would be an interesting list.

Fyi. Nebraska didn't quite make it. They beat Northwestern 56-7 last year.

How much did Tech beat us by the year before 66-10?

Dont think it was 50 but I doubt we played them close in Rhoads final year
