Wrong, putting on lean muscle helps with weight loss more than jogging. However I doubt 3/4 of this board could jog for 30 minutes without stopping.

You are more than likely not eating properly enough to put on lean muscle. Putting on lean muscle while on a calorie deficit is difficult if youre not in check which im assuming youre not. While you will still be "working out" and burning calories, you more than likely will not be adding muscle. While on a bulk (putting on muscle) most people eat at about 1500 calories over maintenance and then do their cut. Obviously there is bro science involved here but its the gist of it.

Post your diet please.

also, if you want serious info, go to bb.com forums and read for about 3 days and then you will know. Im serious.

Has anyone recommended mental exercise yet? Nothing sheds the pounds off like problem solving!

If you can't run for 30 minutes straight after a week or two you're either fat or lazy. Stop making excuses for yourself

lots of good nutrition and workout advise @ bb.com. when I started taking my nutrition and health more seriously, I read about every sticky about working out and eating and I think it provided a great knowledge foundation. Also Fitness, lots of articles from alan aragon and lyle mcdonald and martin berkman (leangains). Use myplate.com to track food so I know what i am putting in my body.

there is so much information (lots of it conflicting) and people claiming one way works best. I think when it comes to losing weight, there are tons of ways to accomplish it. The main thing is consistency and commitment. Personally, I found counting calories to work best, IIFYM-if it fits your macros, focusing on getting enough protein fats and carbs in that order. I also practice intermittent fasting. Lost about 100 lb doing that. I did notice on a low carb diet, I would occasionally stall and needed a carb refeed, which seemed to contradict calorie counting, but I suppose if it was easy obesity might not be a problem

As far as working out, I did p90x for 180 days, now on starting strength. Both have worked as they claimed. The biggest thing I have learned There is a huge link between eating (nutrition), sleeping (rest), and working out (fitness). If you don't have all 3 in check, something will suffer.

Just seeing your avatar makes me hungry!!! Wendy's burgers rule!!! That said, there is a lot of good advice in this thread. Mainly the benefits of interval training, which really works, and the fact that resistance training (lifting) and eating right is probably your best bet.

I agree, that is why I'm going the interval training route.

Most here agree with me. 30 minutes is an easy run for someone who periodically runs. It's pretty funny you're resorting to lifting to lose weight but yet you can't even do short term cardio. If you want to stay a fatty move to mississippi and you'll fit in better.

didnt read all the other crap posted but my only advice for lifting is start out with lighter weight and work on your form then gradually increase the weight over a number of weeks. you will get strong faster and not look like a fool lifting a ton of weight but only with a tiny range of motion. form first, higher weight later

Good call. I do intervals regularly and it literally shreds the pounds that I try to saddle myself with!
The "sidewalk joggers" aren't completely wasting their time......but close.

My Fitness Pal app for iPhone is awesome. You can scan bar codes and it adds the exact food right to your calories for the day. You add your exercise etc. It is pretty addictive. Even if you aren't interested in losing weight you should try it out (its free) just to play with the barcode label thing. I've been doing Farrells for awhile now and I'm getting better results now that I'm tracking everything I eat. I followed the nutrition fairly well before but started eating too much and this keeps me on track.
