Goldie's in PC or my son is a big fan of ( . . . waiting for the hate) the ones at Hickory Park with mashed potatoes and gravy.

Man this is the one thing I can't get in Chicago.

Elms in Creston is good. Also Saints in on 50th in WDM is pretty good as well. Unfortunately I don't get back enough to know any others.

Have to do what I do and start making your own. It's really not that tough. The key is learning how long to cook them and a good mix of spices. I usually buy one of those hormel pork tenderloins then pound out 3 of them from that. cook the one, then freeze the other two for a later date.

The only thing that sucks is the oil mess if you don't have a good deep fryer.

While I have attempted to make mine own, usually using a skillet. I prefer when someone does the cooking for me on this occasion. Homemade are good, but nothing like a really good one from a bar/local place in Iowa.

If only we could move ISU and pork tenderloins closer to the area, I wouldn't really need to go back to Iowa ever. :jimlad:

Best I've ever had. They are thicker than most tenderloins I have had. Not pounded out to the size of a dinner plates like many places do... they are very thick, extremely tender and juicy!

For the win!

Hands down the best I've ever had. Little joint on the side of the road at 44 & 71. If you're ever near the area, I'd stop in and have one.

OK, just got back from Hilltop Tavern in Iowa City. Of course, had to have the tenderloin, with onion rings, and since I saw them on the menu, a side of fried gizzards....that was a first, they tasted like fried gristle...maybe it was the preparation.

Tenderloin was good, I'd go back.

Iowa State Fair, small red and white stand next to the horse barns. Hands down beat tenderloins.

I look forward to Tenderloins from there every year. Not huge, but the best tasting. Other good ones include Mary-go-Round on East 14th and Jethro's.

Was your beer deep-fried, too?

To your original comment, though, I prefer to use the term smart-arses. To me, Steve Alford is a d!**...you have to be a mean person on the whole to be a d!**. Us, sure we play rough with each other, but there's some pretty nice moments of humanity interspersed with the weiner jokes and internet kidney punches. I was pretty happy when I heard Erik and Revkah are expecting, even though I don't know them anywhere but here...there's some folks who have reached out to others who have had rough times of it, and heck, I bet there's even someone who offered to pick up snowcraig's kids for him....

I'm sure that's what you really meant, but I like the smart-arse term better.

Well that's enough serious discussion...it's 4 o'clock, I'm on vacation until Monday, the wife and kids are out of town...why don't I have a beer and a tenderloin in front of me? BRB...

You are definitely right - I more meant smart-***. We have some wonderful hearts on this board, definitely!

I gotta put in a plug for the Filling Station in Davenport if you're in the QCA.

It's huge (thick) and delicious.

We usually end up ordering one to split between two people.

Also, anyone who calls one of those breaded ground pork things a tenderloin should be jailed. A tenderloin is NEVER ground pork!

Filling Station is one of the things I miss most about the QC. Mmm burger baskets, beer, and popcorn. And beach volleyball during the summer.
