A trophy doesn’t make the game any more or less interesting.

KSU and ISU fans like the game, nobody outside of the two states cares at all.

Then, why do we in the two states, who care, care about those outside the two states? Screw 'em.

Most "rivalries" are manufactured and no one really cares about those (like people trying to make ISU/KSU a big deal). Real rivalries are cared about by more than their fan bases.

Army/Navy
Bama/Auburn
OSU/Michigan
OU/Texas
ND/USC
UGA/Florida
Miami/FSU

My thought is that if others don't recognize what we consider to be a rivalry, why should we be concerned? They don't like what we determine to be a rivalry, why should we defer to their judgment?

I think the trophy should be a gilded actual tractor

Yes. I have proposed this previously. 1917, the first year the two teams played, was the first year the gasoline tractor first broke through commercially in sales. Considering it arguably is one of the most significant milestone in agricultural technology, a fulfillment of both schools land grant mission, and there was a model built in Iowa at the time, I propose an actual 1917 Waterloo Boy Model R become the traveling trophy for the game. It would instantly become the most unique and important traveling trophy in all of college football and could be driven into the stadiums for the game. John Deere, who the next year went on to purchase the company building the tractor, should be willing to make this important part of their history front and center to the rivalry and sponsor it's care and travel to the campus via sponsorship.

If no one on the outside recognizes it then you are nothing more than Iowa pretending everyone is your rival.

On the outside of what?

Did anyone on the outside care about the telephone trophy?

Does anyone outside of Iowa care about the Cy-Hawk?

If that’s the case 99 percent of rivalries don’t exist, in your opinion.

This is a bad take. If both teams sucked, no one outside of the programs would care. The only reason these are cared about is they usually have NC implications. With your logic, the only real rivalry is Army/Navy. That game is cared about so much get their own week.

Also, Texas/A&M is bigger rivalry than almost any on that list.

I’m interested in what constitutes a rivalry, in your opinion. Is Yale/Harvard a rivalry? No one outside of those schools cares about it. Mizzou/Kansas? That doesn’t move the needle nationally.

Let’s not even start with any FCS rivalries that literally no one knows or cares about other than the people involved with programs.

Those are all heated rivalries and not manufactured and almost no one would care outside of those fan bases.

I ran across this pic of a tractor made from an old c-clamp amongst other old parts. I could see something like this for a Farmageddon trophy.
