How is the fishing in Lake Laverne? My 9 year old grandson loves to fish and I am looking for a place where the fish bite and the scenery is great. Thanks for the opinions in advance.

I've actually seen quite a few people fishing there - and they've got decent fish. But it smells horrible when you get close up, and I'd be afraid to touch the fish that come out of the water.

With all the crap that has been done to that little pond, if there is a fish in there, he's a hybrid of epic proportions that might not take to kindly to someone setting a hook in his mouth. Might not be pretty

If there were fish in it I'm not sure I would touch them. Something about a pond on a university campus, by a major road, with city hills all around it that drain into it doesnt sit well with me.

I would suggest Ada Hayden just north of Ames. I've been there a few times and have caught quite a few fish.

If you fish there, make sure you have your fishing license. The ISU cops don't have much to do during the summer. If they see you, they will check.

I will admit to once wading across Lake Laverne, the long way, on a dare.

One of the swans came out and tried to kick the crap out of me, just before I got out of the water on the west side.

The summarize, the experience was "icky".

That's hilarious! One summer I was walking across central campus and was laughing because there was a huge crow chasing a girl across the grass. Then it turned on me.

I swear, it was like six feet tall with a 12 foot wingspan. It could run fast too - and I know, because I was hauling trying to get away from the stupid thing.

I don't know how the "fishing" is, but there are fish in there. One of my roommates was an animal ecology major and he once netted a bunch of fish out of LL as part of a class project. This was probably 2003. He said they found several different types of fish in there.

There are fish in Lake Laverne and people do fish there... but I certainly hope you don't plan to eat said fish, and bring hand sanitizer

Pretty place though
