Aren't the cutco knives all serrated?

No.

I have five different kitchen knives, a hunting knife, and a pocket knife from them. They are absolutely fantastic quality and still look as good as the day I got them - and I use them a lot.

I've acquired all of mine as gifts, but you can pick them up at the State Fair every year for some pretty decent prices btw.

Sold Cutco Cutlery and every customer I've talked to since has loved them. If you want to place an order let me know and I can do it online.

Get the Cutco knives and you won't need new ones for 25 years.

Those babies will last a lot longer than 25 years, they are guaranteed for life . I know they honor that guarantee. My grandmother had one of the first knifes made by Cutco, it had a wooden handle. Anyway, there was a crack in the handle so we sent it in and they sent us a new knife, no questions asked.

If you want GREAT knives that are really inexpensive, check out the Forschner Fibrox knives. Here is a link to their 8" chef's knife...

Amazon.com: R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Black Fibrox Handle: Home & Garden

They are the top reviewed knives by Cooks Illustrated and give you all the performance you would need and an incredible price. Your welcome.

I have this exact knife and it's awesome, especially for the price. I also have a few Wusthof knives and like them as well.

I think a lot of people buy these knives and then never sharpen them. No matter what you buy you should learn how to sharpen knives. My wife actually went to a class here in Des Moines where they show you the best way to use a knife and she says it helped a lot.

The wife likes to cook and I like to eat so when she wants something in the kitchen, I buy it.

KitchenAid stand mixer w/attachments=check
wusthof knives=check
All-Clad pans that I have to hand wash=check
Tons of cook books=check

I won't get her granite counter tops though since I don't think it will make the food taste any better.

I have a few of the Pampered Chef FORGED knives and ablsolutley love them. They are the best knives I've ever had. You are getting alot of good advice, but I wouldn't buy another set until you've seen the Pampered Chef FORGED knives. At 60% off the retail price, your cost comes way down and I know you'll be happy.

Wait until you get a 20% coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond and then go into the store and order either a Global or Shun 8" Chef's knife and then get a Parer with it. In fact I think Global has a 3 knife set. Being someone who has bought an entire set of nice Global knives I can honestly say all you need is the Chef's knife and the parer. Everything else is overkill. You might want those 2 knives and a hone. Buy these and you'll have them for life and under what you'd pay for the Pampered Chef.

Go down to the Kitchen Collage in the East Village and look at the Wustof and other selections they have and pick out what feels good in your hand. They even have knife skills classes every so often to help.

Yes I read on this site that it was quite a battle to get the "knife skills coach" hired.

I'm wondering why you all-capped the word "forged". Are you implying Pampered Chef knives are "fake"? Or is it they are allegedly special by being "forged".

Knives are either milled or forged. Even forged knives are then milled to final form. I think those bubbas in Solingen (either Forschner or Wusthof) are pretty sharp at making a knife. (pun intended:yes:)

The problem I have with Pampered Chef, is their prices are usually stupid high. I have a few of their things, and for the price, I could've got similar quality for less money.

And a +1 to knowing how to sharpen a knife. Notice how our 21 year old paring knife has quit being convex and is now leading toward concave. That is one well-used, sharp little cutter, right there. And it STILL doesn't need reprofiling.
