Not that I disagree or even know anything about these two cars but I use Consumer Reports for reliability ratings and statistics only. They are pretty much worthless when it comes to everything else.

I get Consumer Reports (online), automobile mag, road and track, car and driver, and motor trend.

Motor Trend and C&D are my favorites for review and comparisons. I used to get Autoweek but it's terrible.

When I've went out and drove the same cars I felt like those two mags were the most accurate.

We just purchased a Subaru Legacy for that very reason. Good gas mileage, great safety ratings and all wheel drive. The Accord and Sonata are really good cars, but AWD sealed the deal for us.
Subaru is going to be at the top of my list next time we're car shopping for these very reasons.

I agree with you the CR is not necessarily "car experts". I definitely find more value in their reliability ratings.

Motor Trend and C&D, cars are all they do so I would hope they are the experts when it comes to actual performance. In the past, however, I've felt they were sometimes biased toward American cars.

We haven't had our Legacy very long, but so far we've been nothing but pleased. Can't say enough good things about it.

It has not been that long since they were a joke and old habits/beliefs die hard. While Hyundai has mostly divested itself from Kia -- they are still the majority owner, but own less than 40% of the company -- it seems Kia has followed Hyundai's formula for slow, solid growth and improvement in reliability and performance.

I get around
That's what happens when you take a good simple vehicle and rarely change anything.
Yep, you got it. It's had a few styling changes over the years along with the typical interior and electronics upgrades but it just keeps plugging along. Top performer and seller in it's class.

Makes sense. They have some nice looking cars, good warranty, and decent prices. Maybe someday Ill change my tune.

I think I had a 97 and it was gutless. If you set the cruise at 75mph it would not drop down a gear to speed up and it couldn't keep up by staying in the same gear. Other than that it was a good little vehicle. In 2008 we were considering the CRV as well as some others for my wife but after driving the Nissan Rogue there was no way i was going to get her to buy a CRV.

If I was going to buy a car, and money wasn't going to spend a fortune, it would be a Nissan or an Infinity.

At least Kia is being a little original with their styling instead of what Hyundai is doing. Hyundai is making some good cars but they have no imagination when it comes to styling. Most of them are a direct rip-off.

That said, Hyandai, Kia, and Ford have made the biggest quality improvements from where they were several years ago. The South Koreans are finally giving the Japanese a run for their money. Kia has been a leader in car safety for a few years.

Maybe Kias cost too little to buy? Or they remind you of a Fiat who owns Chrysler?

People bag on Honda for this as well, but honestly there are enough customizations that are available to set your car apart. The basic models arent much to look at but you can do some really sharp looking things to it to make it stand out.
