I've always put ketchup on my hot dogs. I've seen a few shows on the travel channel that have featured hot dog places in Chicago, and I have seen multiple people say it's a sin to put ketchup on hot dogs. Is this just a Chicago thing, or is this common?

I know it's a Chicago thing for sure. I also think it's a Philly thing.

I've always put ketchup on hot dogs and always will. Anybody that tells you this or that condiment is wrong for this or that sandwich is a Nazi, or possibly just a self-important jerk.

**** ketchup. I put tomatoes on it instead. Mustard, grilled onions and tomatoes. Damnit, I need a hot dog now.

I put ketchup on hot dogs, and always will, but a chicago dog doesn't have ketchup on it and it would ruin it if it did.

This. If you get a Chicago dog then no as it doesn't make sense. Just making some on the grill, then yes of course.

Like any other food that is dressed up with lots of ingriedents, some items just don't pair well.

Between the pizza and the hot dogs I get the feeling that Chicagoans just like terrible food.

Ketchup, mustard, and cheese on hot dogs for me.

This is also another reason to avoid and ignore Chicago at all costs.
