I have one of those too, but she eats the rabbits not the turds. Needless to say they don't come by to often. The squirrels on the other hand torment her, she has not caught one of them yet.

the worse was when one caught a 20 lbs woodchuck, she wouldn't give it up. she killed and carried it around like a trophy all day - while we were having a bbq party.....luckily our friends know the dog and were not too offended.

Bloodmeal works well. I haven't tried it on the whole yard but it keeps them out og the garden. They hate the smell of it.

rabbits eat their own turds, too.when an animal eats its own turds, they are called coprophagic(do it yourself own turdmunchers).rabbits eat their own feces because that is wher they get their source of nutrition for most of the B vitamins.. they crunch carrots, lettuce and cabbage and they have extra big caecums in which they produce several b vitamins that are passed in their feces.the feces or turds are their major source of the B VITAMINS.

i like a .22 to get rid of them.

That sounds like a design flaw.

Thanks for the info. At least I know my dog is getting B vitamins when she eats rabbit pellets!

These work really well for rodents in my yard. Within the first week, I caught and killed 10+ squirrels. (Obviously I put squirrel bait in it, not rabbit, but I'm sure it works just as well)

I inherited a similar trap from my dad. I have a rabbit explosion in my neighborhood. They even ate my rose shrub down to ground. I have shot two and trapped two but there are still herds of the little rats tramping around my yard at night. This weekend I found they had been eating my favorite rhododendron and I am mega steamed and highly motivated to KILL some mo rabbits!

Anyone got suggestions for bait that won't attract raccoons? I have been using corn but with mixed results. Have to get up and close the trap in the morning or by breakfast I will have a squirrel.

First rabbit POW is in the pic below.

Look for Bobex or Liquid Fence. They are the only two products that work, but they have to be applied frequently.

It's funny that a post came up about rabbits. One fell in our E-Grass window and my wife made me save it. 1 week latter she discovered they ate some of her favorite plants down to a nub and she was furious. I went to Bass Pro Shop and baught an 880 BB/pelet gun and have been ordered to kill them all.

The rabbits are also buddies with my Cat. They come up on the deck and to the window when my cat is laying by them.

Put up a goal post and paint a goal line. Then put tiny Nebraska helmets on them.

Go buy a high powered pellet gun at Scheels. Worked for me. It may be illegal in town but it doesn't make much noise. Just don't shoot your eye out.

Try .22 CB longs or shorts (depending on the chamber of your gun).

They throw a rather heavy bullet (60 grains) even quieter than a pellet gun.

If you place your shots correctly, it is instant "bang...flop".

I use CB .22 shorts in my clandestine sniping of rabbits I mentioned in a post above. They are really quiet and the lower velocity is less likely to ricochet off of something. Didn't know they made a "long", might have to give them a try.

If hunting within city limits wasn't against city code, I would have bought a pellet gun at Walmart last year. And if I had bought a pellet gun, I am sure I would have eliminated 17 rabbits in a four month period. I am assuming that this would have solved the problem...if it wasn't illegal.
:jimlad:

I have a pellet/BB gun that I used last year and took out at least 15 rabbits and will be adding to that tally again this year.

Get the ISU men's basketball staff to do some work in your yard. The rabbits will be gone in two years, tops.

For those whose pets have an appetite for rabbits... my dog got a tapeworm from eating them. It only took a couple of pills to clear it up, but I think it really grossed my niece out when they were sitting on the couch together and worm segments started crawling out of his butt. :wideeyed:
