Jon Lieber is a Cub again

The Cubs bolstered their rotation on Wednesday by bringing back former starter Jon Lieber on a one-year deal worth $3.5 million. The veteran Lieber spent some of his best seasons in Chicago and compiled 20 wins for the club during the 2001 season.

You can never have enough starting pitching. Sports talk radio here in St Louis just suggested yesterday that the Cards sign him.

I was really hoping that the Cards would sign him. Hopefully, Dave Duncan can work wonders with Matt Clement. 3.5 Mil really isn't that bad for a starting pitcher.

I like the signing. He can't possibly be any worse than Dumpster or Marquis. I wouldn't be surprised if 1 of those 2 guys are traded now too.

It's probably another step towards trading someone like Marshall and Cedeno to Baltimore for Roberts, which I would love. I think Roberts and his bat are good for this team...we'll only see though. Just over a month until pitchers and catchers report...
