Jerry Kill is a bitter old *******. No real opinion on the Boat Rower yet but Kill's a ****. Fleck never did anything to Kill. Kills bitter about being let go. He's bitter about his buddy getting fired after that even though they had a brewing Baylor like scandal heating things up here.

I have no problem with coaches having their slogans/mantras as part of their FB program. Every coach does it. But, I would have a major issue with a HC that has trademarked his slogan/logo and then puts it all over the uniforms. Seems really self-serving and disingenuous to me.

Especially when said coach takes the team mantra with him when he changes schools. Kind of hard to buy into a culture when it’s also transferable. I will bet a weeks pay that Fleck is currently working on a book deal to monetize row the boat.

Most Gopher fans I know are a little worried that Fleck may be second coming of Tim Brewster. Thought Kill was a real coach who unfortunately had medical issues, or he would still be there.
And they don't like the oar on the helmet. Almost as bad as the Fake ID and their ANF.

Never a good thing to be standing behind your players when your employer has launched an investigation into about 10% of your team for sexual assault in this day and age.

I'm actually conflicted here because I'd like to see Iowa's path in the West to be a little tougher. It's been incredibly easy for awhile now. Wisconsin is tough and Northwestern is always scrappy. Looks like Frost at Nebraska and Brohm at Purdue are turning things around. But, Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois have been spinning their wheels for years despite having Big 10 money. I have a hard time rooting for Fleck against anyone though. VERY happy we didn't hire him.

The cities are a Vikings town closely followed by the Wild. I’d almost put the U’s hockey neck and neck with the Twins and Wolves.

The U’s football team is a big afterthought.
Yes, fan support is pretty weak, but doesn't change the fact that he had a ton of talent right in the twin cities and was terrible against ranked teams. In fact, going back to his NIU days he was terrible against teams with winning records.

He was not a bad coach, but was not nearly as good as most think. He did a good job beating bad teams and was fortunate to play lots of them in his tenure.

Speaking of Jerry's medical issues...how is it that he was able to, you know, coach after leaving Minnesota?

And they have to change the uniforms after they can his ass.

The U's football team has an OK following. I'm not disputing that it's well behind those other teams but they generally get people to show up for games, at least to a decent extent. It's a weird fanbase though in that little attention is paid to the team unless you're under 25 or over 60.

Obviously not very well. Even with his medical treatments it was still sporadic. He finally faced the music (and doctors advice) and gave it up.

Fleck is a fraud but Kill is a bit overrated. He beat two overrated Nebraska teams and went 0-fer against ranked teams otherwise during his tenure. Rhoads had a better winning % vs ranked teams.

I've never thought of UM as being that bad a job. Big population base and only D1 school in the state.

Their fans couldn't care less.

We've outdrawn Minnesota for years. There are more people in the Minneapolis metro than the state of Iowa. We share this state with another P5 school that has more fans than we do. They have the whole state to themselves. And they still can't get 50,000 people in there unless they're playing Iowa or Wisconsin, and there are 20,000 visiting fans.

Their stadium is smaller than the enrollment of their main campus. Let that sink in for a second. They might be the worst P5 fanbase. Most of the other pathetic attendance schools are tiny private schools like Baylor, TCU, Duke, BC, Vandy, etc.
