JD power initial quality ranking

No big surprises. I was thinking that Buick did a lot better the last couple of years. Hyundai is very impressive especially considering all the new models they've recently released. Having new models can really hurt your scores. That's why companies like Porsche, Mini, etc can range a lot since they have so few models.

It's notable that Acura ranks below Honda. At least when you buy a Lexus over a Toyota, there's a good reason...

Then the question is why such a small car is so problematic. Especially when they have essentially one or two models.

Keep in mind that these types of surveys can be a little biased but JD Power is considered one of the best. Lexus has been at the top or near the top since they came out. It's really impressive when you consider that people that own a Lexus expect perfection so they are likely to complain about things that someone buying a Dodge may not complain about like rattles.

Also keep in mind that this is problems per 100 cars. So Lexus for example has less than 1 problem per car. So lexus has .84 problems per car where Mini had 1.65 problems per 1 car.

Also keep in mind that this is just initial quality. JD power also has a long term study that I think looks at 3 years of ownership. It does give you an indication of quality since they ones that are at the top now will mostly be likely the same one that are at the top after 3 years.

The big surprise here is no Camry or Accord in the top 3. I believe the Accord may have moved to "large car" this yerar but I'm not 100% positive.

Actually, I believe this list is only the best plants so just being on this list is an accomplishment.

South Koreans have been giving top notch Japanese quality a run for its money in last three years. The gap has been closed. The Japanese have been semi worried they may be challenged around the world.

I sat in one of these at the last auto show that I went to and was very impressed for the $$. Hyundai Genesis

The only thing I find negative with Hyundai is they rarely have original car designs. They constantly rip off the designs of other automakers.

This must be the kind of stuff that the new ford commercials base their newest comments on. The new one with Mike Rowe says that Ford is higher quality than Honda and Toyota....thought that was weird.

It's really weird when it's not even true. They are knocking on the door though.
