Is he a lock to make the team?

Not at all. It wouldn't be a shock if the team decided to part ways with him in the preseason roster cuts. But I don't think they'll cut him because of this. If they were going to dump him because of the PED use they would have done so immediately to send a message that it wouldn't be tolerated in the organization. Who better to make an example of than a fringe roster guy? The fact that they haven't yet indicates that they still see him as a potential contributor. But he could get caught in a numbers crunch this fall. If Philly finds one or two other guys they think can do his job on special teams then they might not wait on him while he serves his suspension.

If it was some crappy supplement that cost me $100,000, I would have no trouble outing it on the record.
No joke. If it was a case of mislabeling, I'd be sure everyone knew exactly what happened an the name of the company so this didn't get someone else .

Man, IF truly a mistake,!for him it's $125,000 mistake.

Jake is on record with CW saying he'll talk more.

I believe all he said was he couldn't go on the record at this time. Then he released the public statement if I'm not mistaken. I highly doubt Jake is going to have a one-on-one with CW, Barbara Walters style. This is something you sweep under the rug as quickly as possible.

I laugh at all the Iola fans who are saying "This happened because he went to Iowa State."

Jake is one of the coolest guys I've ever met. He is also one of the hardest working people I've ever meet. I just hope this doesn't affect his future with the Eagles or let alone any team in the NFL. No doubt in my mind he'll be a starter by the end of his career.

Or did he? :)

From this article:
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/st...04/04/jake-knott-suspended-by-eagles/7315419/

"We're very disappointed to learn of his suspension," according to an Eagles statement. "We have spoken to Jake, and he is fully aware of the mistake he made and owned (up to) it. The key for him, however, is to learn from that mistake, and move forward with his preparation for the 2014 season."

He didn't own up to it until after he got busted. Do you really think he would have admitted what he was doing if he hadn't tested positive?

GUILTY. That's all that matters. He needs to put his head down, shut up, and eat right. He knows what he did.

Actually pretty common. He was busted for a common legal stimulant not meth, or controlled stimulants like adderal, modafinal, retain etc. And not roids or hormones. So it had to be one of the variations of ephedrine. Ephedrine, methylephedrine or psuedoeffedrine are in all kinds of over the counter products and are a banned substance. As this journal article states many supplements list the natural source product of ephedrine on the label throwing athletes off that weren't paying close enough attention in the session they probably received on banned substances. From the article in Medscape:
"The main candidates from the dietary supplement market for inadvertent doping with stimulants are products containing ephedrine and analogues, sibutramine and methylhexaneamine. Such products are mainly advertised as fat burners or mood enhancers, and their use may lead to positive doping results in competition. The risk of inadvertent doping with such supplements is based on different reasons.

In the case of supplements containing ephedrines, the natural sources of ephedrine such as*Ma Huang*or*ephedra sinica*are frequently mentioned on the label rather than the names of the active ingredients (ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, methylephedrine, etc). Despite extensive education of athletes regarding unclear labelling, or the variety of names by which banned substances may be referred to, many athletes still fall into this doping trap."

I should note that I am willing to bet over half the posters on this site have ingested this in the last year and all at some point in their life. Not really a big deal and stupid to have it be a ped. It is because football players used to take the pure ephedrine laced pills to get amped but not much different than pounding a couple red bulls.

I think some of you really need to get off your high horse. Miller was so annoying yesterday I had to turn it off. You couldn't describe a common stimulant like caffeine from the latest lab developed steroid if your life depended upon it. A stimulant in the off-season is hardly going to give you any advantage. It just shows that Jake was not a chemistry major and did not pay as much attention as he needed. Maybe you guys should avoid that dreaded chemical di-hydrogen monoxide, after all it will kill you in large quantities.

This. The fact that it was a stimulant in the off season gives complete credibility to his story. As you stated their is no real football advantage by taking a stimulant in the offseason. Unless you are fighting a cold or didn't sleep well the night before and it helped you wake up to lift weights. Ephedrine, however is little if any more effective as a stimulant than many non banned stimulants like high dosages of caffiene that are substitutes in many cold medications or energy/diet supplements. It should not be banned and certainly not in the off season.

Gotta believe if I accidentally took a cold pill that prompted my company to dock my pay 25% and i thought it was an honest mistake, I would fight like hell rather than say "sorry - I took a cold pill and I've learned my lesson".

Not judging Jake AT ALL. But it is what it PROBABLY is and he's learned an expensive lesson.

Here is the flaw in your logic (besides the fact nobody said, including him he got it from cold meds). How does one use ephedrine to get an advantage in the off season? Did you read the link I posted? We know he tested positive for a stimulant (NFL breaks banned substances into 3 categories Stimulants, Anabolic Agents/Steroids and Masking Agents. Banned stimulants include Meth, ADHD meds (Ritalin, adderall, modafinal), ephedrine (including pseudo and methyl) and the dietary drugs that combine to make fen-phen. Stimulants help one get "up for a game or practice" and supposedly give one an edge by making one more mentally alert in game time.

How does that effect the off season? I played college football and some guys popped ephedrine pills before games others loaded up on caffeine pills I never saw anyone take ADHD pills before a game that didn't have ADHD likely because they were harder to get . Never once did I see anyone take any stimulant in the off season as a PED. It makes no sense. I am willing to bet he took a supplement with something with Ma Huang in it and didn't know that is the plant that ephedrine is extracted from. Tons of nutritional supplements have ma huang and if you weren't paying attention in the restricted substance class (because you don't dope maybe) it would be very easy to do and according to the article I posted is a common problem and the main cause of unknowingly using a banned substance (and meshes completely with what he said happened).

So what is it you think he was taking a stimulant for that was worth that risk, if not unknowingly?

Do teams not have nutritionists or doctors that he can go over painstakingly every supplement he puts in his body? I'm thinking he probably did what he did knowingly.

In the off season? Tell me why he would take a stimulant knowingly to get an edge? And the medscape article I posted answers your question. Yes it still happens. I assumed he was doping and was a BS answer until I saw it was a stimulant he tested positive for.
