I tried the dns change to no avail. My router says it can't renew my dhcp addrress.

What's most frustrating is you can't even call in the tech support line.

Hookay, all the lights that are up should be, and still no access with Mediacoms auto-supplied DNS addresses or OpenDNS. Now this is getting on my nerves.

Qwest doesn't offer the speed I need for work, otherwise I would switch.

I am actually thinking about a 3G modem...

Quite literally as I posted this, my internet springs to life after some fooling around with my Airport Extreme's settings. Hoorah! And without OpenDNS!

I think mediacom (yes, no "M") got it fixed, because mine magically started working too. I am still using openDNS.

I get around
I rebooted the cable modem and when I finally got internet back, I rebooted the router and everything is working fine now. Mediacom internet was out for about an hour or so for me.

FYI. It's a DNS issue.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23670458-IA-Outage

There are a lot of similar posts to the one here but it is confirmed to be a DNS outage around page 3.
Yep. My husband called and finally got through to a tech support person last night who said they'd been having issues the past few days, which coincided with our internet issues at home. I'll have to ask him about switching to OpenDNS, I don't know if there are any restrictions when he remotes into work from home.

It was working this morning when I got up. I'm at work now.

We've been having issues for about a month now with our computer staying connected to our wireless network with Mediacom online. Anyone else had this before just the last two days? We can be online for about 10 minutes, then we have to unplug the router and reset it.

Would not be surprised if it is a DNS problem. Which would explain why some sites work and others do not.

There are forums on DSL Report that is specific to each provider (including Mediacom). I would head over there and see if there any widespread issues.

Past that, try switching to OpenDNS.

+1

Without reading any of the other posts, i would say DNS is the likely issue.
