I thought that was one of the people who live on the lake, of which there were a few people who jumped in either by swimming or kayaking to save them. Apologies if I'm mistaken.

I also am puzzled by the club President releasing a statement if the investigation is ongoing. I understand they may not be thinking clearly due to grief, stress, possible feeling of guilt, or wanting to put something/anything out to answer the building number of questions, but the club adviser stepping in before that was released would've been the thing to do, especially if it turns out to be in conflict with reality/what the investigators find.
Oh I had thought it was a "rescue boat" but idk for sure I guess. I may be mistaken too.

Here's wind speed from a weather station 7 miles from Little Wall Lake. The red lines are 7:30am. I know conditions can vary over a short distance but the sustained wind was over 12 mph all night and near 20 mph before 6am.

Yeah, that doesn't support the story they put out at all. I'm sure she's feeling guilty and trying to push some of the blame off. This would be awful to live with.

One homeowner said that he paddled out in his kayak to rescue a female rower - said she was in bad shape but held on to his kayak all the way back to shore.
I haven't heard how the other two survivors - including the club president - made it back; has it been released yet?

Pushing the blame off? Are you saying she caused this?

It should also be common sense to not go out in the wind.

What a weird decision.
I agree with you. When I let my dog out at 8am that Sunday (in Ames) the gust of wind upon opening my door was quite violent and very cold. I actually apologized to my dog! Was stunned later to learn people made a conscious decision to go out on the lake. I couldn’t believe it.

Incredibly weak on the club's part to blame this on a lack of funding. If the club continues to exist going forward I wouldn't be surprised to see the university get involved with when the boat can go out.

Yes, I hate to pile on the already sad situation, but if a club doesn't have the funding to ensure participants safety then the club doesn't have enough funding to operate/exist.

I’m not sure what equipment the club couldn’t afford that would’ve made this a safer situation. You can go to Target and get a life vest for $20.

I was treasurer for a couple of clubs when I was in school, and every club claims lack of funding.

If they truly had something that was inadequate, it shouldn't have gone in the water in the first place.

I don't know if you can go to Target and get anything for $20 anymore.
