That was Lawson of Air Force.. first game at JT (then cyclone stadium) and not an ISU player.....
I was there. Lawson played for AF and it was an awesome kick!
I was told that was the first game in the current stadium. Anyone confirm that?

I believe I read somewhere that the Air Force field goal was the NCAA record for a while (later broken).

Also ... 1st game in a stadium has a record-breaking field goal that still stands for that location? How cool is that! That's like hitting a home run in your first at-bat.

I know the Ty Stewart one against OSU was in Ames (Cyclone Stadium/Jack Trice Field at the time) and the Missouri one of his was on the road if it was that year. Not sure about the Giffords one.

Giffords kick was in Norman (Alex's freshman season). ISU lost 38-9. I think he kicked it as time expired or late in 4th, IIRC ... Duncan put him in to try to tie the school record, since game obviously wasn't in doubt.

Anyone remember Mason Crosby bouncing them off the Jacobson building from like 60 yards away?

Ty Stewart had a cannon on his leg.
Was gonna mention this. A windy game with the wind tunnel that JTS was probably could have produced a 70 yarder with a kicker like Crosby.

The crazy thing about ISU’s kicking struggles is that we’ve had some really good kickers in our history.

My kicker memory is watching Alex Henery a bomb some kicks in JTS before the Nebraska game in 2010 (the one we lost on the fake extra point). Henery had a few good seasons with the Eagles in the NFL afterward. He was making 50+ yarders in pregame with 10+ yards to spare every time.

Our kickers put extra points on the AD suite in front of the Jacobson Building...

Crosby was putting them on the GD roof.
