Confirmed that two 10 year old cub scouts captured him. DPS declined to comment on why they couldn't bring him in.

Reminds me of a Ron White bit when he talks about California cops' being unable to apprehend/stop a violent suspect:

Cops: "But he's got body armor on!"
RW: "I can see his head. Shoot him in the head!"

So could he use it for credit against any future charges that may or may not be filed?

Doubt it. This seems an awful lot like brownie points. They require work to attain, and aren't available for redemption when you need them.

WTF! How does this make sense to him or his lawyer or anyone for that matter? Boy escapes from work group, enters apartment, assaults the resident and then claims self-defense?

I get it.... it's very similar to the Casey Anthony defense. Kill your kid, have your lawyer go into the courtroom and throw wild allegations they can't prove about being molested by parents, etc... to confuse the jury. I would love to hear this kid's lawyer argue that her client was fighting in self defense against a girl. What a *****.

The defense will probably say something like "We don't contest that my client illegally entered the apartment in question with the intent to hide from authorities. We contend that he was viciously attacked by the female occupant of the apartment without any provocation." Good luck with that defense.
