Is this the year a 16th seed knocks off a 1 seed?

Never in the history of the NCAA Tournament has a 16th seed knocked off a 1 seed. This year, I think that trend continues. However, out of all the number one seeds which one would be the most vulnerable? I am not picking it, but I think the number one seed that COULD be the most vulnerable to have this happen is Virginia. Coastal Carolina in my opinion is the strongest number 16 seed and will keep this contest relatively close. Your thoughts?

I made a bold prediction to this effect in another thread before the brackets were posted because we have seen more and more parity as well as having 6 rather than 4 16 seeds so the bottom 2 auto qualifiers are likely no longer in the equation. It is still an incredible long shot, but I think 68 teams and the lack of truly dominant 1 seeds makes it more likely than it ever has been before. It will happen eventually.

You have a .500 team in the NEC and a team that's 6 games under .500 in one of the worst conferences (Big West) in this tournament. Those two teams will get wamboozled by even a 15 seed. It's not happening this season.

Have to admit the #1's seems weaker this year than previous years. So if it's going to happen, this is the year.

I agree with the premise (that the play in games basically take two of the worst teams out of the tournament) and I think that a 16 seed will beat a 1 seed someday.

I don't think that this will be the year.

Wichita State has hardly played anyone with a pulse and will go out early in the tournament, but I doubt they'll go out THAT early.

A 16 seed will beat a #1 someday, but I don't see it happening this year because so many of the 16 seeds are teams that didn't do very well in conference play, but managed to pull out the tournament victory.

I think you need a year where the mid-major category is stronger than usual coupled with a group of #1's that aren't completely dominant.

Yes, he's been known to dominate games, but at the same time, it wasn't against the same talent that he'll be facing in Wichita State. I don't believe they are a dominant #1 seed, but I do believe that they could finish in the top 3 of several of the power conferences out there.

I am not ruling out Wichita State bowing out early from the tournament, but expect them to do better than what most experts think. I have seen a lot of projections from experts saying they will go down in the second round to either Kansas State ( who I think it will be) or Kentucky. I just don't think they will lose to either one of those opponents. Just my opinion.

Witchita State is legit. If they get past Kentucky or avoid them I think they will win the Midwest region.
