Bad rush D vs an amazing RB and that RB averages 2.8 YPC. But let's run him up the gut again!

He’s not great, he’s not terrible. Below average is probably most accurate. The offense tends to do Ok despite him likely off talent alone. Hopefully the next time he leaves, we actually hire an OC to replace him. And hopefully CMC stays obviously.

I really think Manning would do a great job at Ohio St, Alabama, or Oklahoma where he could just out athlete everyone, but that way of thinking just does not work at a school like ISU, where we never have the best athletes on the field year after year.

When was the last time we throw a screen pass, just saw Ok. St, roll the QB right and then throw back to the back to the left, for a big gain. There is no imitation, in the play calling, no forcing our opponent to cover the entire field.
Manning calls a game like he has 5 star talent, and is trying to do it the 3 star talent.

He was getting hit before he even got back to los. They were pushing the o line back.

The adjustment of splitting him out and getting him into space was a nice adjustment

The other problem is they were playing for the fg as soon as they to the 40. That’s a staff issue

I do agree with that. I wish we would've played to win. Not sure why the staff felt good playing for the tie. I get that it was a long kick and our D hadn't given up many points in the 2nd half but part of that was Tech. We hadn't really slowed them down.

Wow again the experts are all on here telling us we need to replace a coach with themselves since they are experts( after the fact) in calling plays.
Not really after the fact when in the off-season people are saying Manning has X problem as a play caller and now in season are bringing it up again. For me, it's the inability to get away from running on every first down when time and time again pretty much every study done says that throwing on early downs more often is much more efficient. It's continuing to be far too vanilla until they're trailing in the second half.

A majority of games outside of a few each year when the offense is opened up from the start, we see run-run-pass to open the first few drives. Breece is a star and you should get the ball in his hands, but there is more than one way to do it and I'd like to see more passes thrown his way, more pitches, and a lot less carries inside the tackles when the defense knows what's coming, which as of right now is almost every first down unless the Cyclones are down late.

Way up there
I don't think Manning is awful but I think he is pretty married to the idea of looking "big" while being versatile enough to throw the ball. I think he out schemes himself at times instead of taking advantage of our athletes. We wonder why we don't see much production from the WR other than XH, the truth is, they are just not on the field that much. TE's typically outnumber WR in our offensive sets.

Our style helps us against teams that are better than us but it also can allow inferior teams to hang around because we won't attack them. We give them too much respect and think we have to trick them rather than just be better than them.

This staff needs to do some soul searching in regards to energy effort and both the beggining of a season and the first half of games

We aren't talented enough to start half our games in a severe hole...

I love this staff's ability to make adjustments and how they get guys to be better in the second half. They are ELITE in-game coaches. I just wonder what part of the weekly prep and process heading to kickoff holds this team back.

If this team played half as hard and brought even half the energy in the first half's.. I really do think we are a top 10 team in the nation.. But having 2+ touchdown deficits many times to far lesser opponents is not something new for this program.. What can change?

We could start by not pretending that the entire month of September is the preseason.

The Cyclones will go games without taking an actual deep shot and no one can convince me it doesn't have consequences like today in the run game. Tech was not afraid to sell out on stopping Breece early in the game and the offense couldn't or didn't keep them honest and subsequently didn't really move the ball until the game situation forced them out of playing into TTU's plan.

One connection I see there is that if Milton or Scates or Shaw is on the field, the defense basically always knows that Brock is dropping back. Feels like the reliance on 3 TE sets as essentially the base look has made it a bit too predictable.

Add in Wilson , and None of those guys mentioned have done enough consistently to make Brock confident in them enough to trust them.

there were at least two plays yesterday where he had one of them open in space down the field, and Brock threw underneath to a tight end or Hutch.

To date most of the yardage Breece has gotten is on hand offs so maybe that is why we do it. Yesterday they were keying on him and we should have gone to the passes to him sooner but again after a game is done it is so easy to second guess calls. I can be the BEST play caller ever after I have watched a game and seen what happened and pointed out those plays that did not work. I am disappointed in our record to date as I felt with all the returning people we could make another run at the championship. We have had a number of minor injuries which have hurt us but my hope is we finish with two more wins and get a good bowl game.
