The big 10 has some of the best defenses in the country. Idk how ISU would hold up each year vs the softies the big 12 put out. ISU would be a 3 big ten win a year type team.
The Big 10 certainly has some good defenses, but 90% of them are in the Big 10 East.
Why are you even on an ISU message board in the middle of an Iowa game? Do Iowa fans really care that much about what ISU fans have to say that they need to hangout over here during their games?

Nebraska is average in the B1G. They were always near the top of the Big 12.

We are below average in the Big 12. We would be near the bottom of the B1G.

This is incorrect. They were middling after the North/South was done away with

Follow the money.
If you were some, say, Drake business grad. had a nice job at the Athletic Department in marketing designing the wonderful uniforms and "forever" commercials or whatever, you have a Big12/Texas money stream that is assuring your departments budget as long as you play the Washington General Clowns to everyone else's Globetrotters....where is the urgency to change? Why change? Everybody has a parachute or is packing it....Leath, Jamie, Paul......Not sure the passion or partisan pride is there to have a competitive football team.
Congrats, everything you just posted was wrong

I'm not saying we'd be a top half team in the Big 10, or do better than Iowa on a yearly basis necessarily. Just competitive, this year especially. Our ceiling and floor could very well remain unchanged, I agree

Whatever makes you feel better. Our offense is pathetic against horrible defenses and the Big 10 has some of the best in the country. Dont kid yourself, we would still be a bottom feeder in the big 10.

If Iowa State could compete in the Big 10
Then Toledo would be elite in the Big 10

Toledo's #22 ranking passes the eye test better the past couple weeks than NW's #20 ranking.

Michigan is probably quite underrated but the rest of the Big 10 is highly suspect. Sagarin is a little janky this year but check out the AP ranking compared to Sagarin.

Media rank/computer rank
Ohio State 1/14
Michigan 12/3
Michigan State 7/39
Iowa 17/26
NW 20/29
Penn State 36/52

Sagarin aint perfect but that GIGANTIC disparity illustrates the constant media bl0wjob the Big Ten gets every year. Michigan has looked great, but the AP poll are stubborn idiots so they underrate them. The rest of the conference has looked pretty horrible and the AP poll slobbers all over them.

The North/South was done away with after they left chief.

Regardless, we all saw what happened whenever the played teams from the south. Would get blasted in Big 12 title games, just as unlikely to beat Oklahoma toward the end as we were.

Northwestern might want to work on getting their fans to show up at their own stadium to watch their top 25 ranked team.

That's an embarrassment.

Drove by their stadium around 9:30 this morning on my way to work and if I didn't know better it was an Iowa home game. Same thing could be said whenever they are hosting Wisconsin, Nebraska, OSU, Michigan, etc. Their fan base is very small and odd.

We would be more competitive in the B10 WEST. Outside of Iowa the west is mostly cupcakes. Big 10 West and previous B12 North have a lot of similarities.

Lived in Chicago for 14 years, met one NW football fan who was a diehard and grad. Met ZERO Illinois fans, zero in 14 years. Met dozens and dozens of fans from about every other Big Ten team.

Chicago is the geographic hub of Big Ten, but people from Chicago generally act as if college sports don't exist. They'd rather pay $300 to watch the Bears be horrible than pay 15 bucks to watch a ranked college team. There are tons of college football fans in Chicago, none of them are from Chicago and none of them like Illinois or NW.

Did OP really use term compete when speaking about ISU Football?

We couldn't even compete in the MAC

Compete is not in this programs vocabulary. Anywhere. Anytime.

We'd be a typical Big Ten West team. Wouldn't light the world on fire but would rarely have to face the type of speed we see most weeks in Big 12 play.

Yeah we suck. We'd suck 1-3 losses less per year if we played in a horrible division against slow teams instead of playing 9 games against generally rosters from Texas.

The kicker is those slow teams are often propped up by the media as being better than they are, so you get garbage like people pretending Minnesota has been really good lately. They haven't beat anybody, they've been good enough to beat a lot of really average teams the past few seasons.

I wouldn't want to play Michigan right now...sign me up for playing any other Big Ten team the next two weeks vs what we have coming at us. It's not even close.
