Depends on your perspective. When you've been following the Cyclones for 40 years, 12 years is indeed a few.
GOLD HELMETS ARE THE SOLUTION
Any of the Cy logos from that era are great, I love all the different ones around that time for the different sports etc. But of course the walking Cy was the best. But I'm torn if the Walking Cy vs the Orr Cyclone (updated version without Iowa State above it) which is better. I love that Cyclone too.
I think it would also be cool to see a helmet with the modern version of our Cyclones in the arc like there was in the 80's. Possibly with the Orr Cyclone below it? Using this modern logo:

We should have just modernized this...
...instead of doing the "I-State" thing.
The design is dated (and lacks the charm of the timeless cartoon mascots and/or the simplicity and literalness of the tornado), but the concept is not. Give it some darker, modern colors, some gold, and a modern font, and the block I with an ISU inside of it would be great.

I liked the uniforms in the UNI Game, but it would have been just a little bit better with a white helmet.
No, it's clearly the turd bugle logo that you have as your avatar. That cheap-ass Walmart lookin logo is a complete embarrassment. I'm embarrassed that the athletic department chose to do this to us, and I would be embarrassed to wear any attire with it on it. I could have photoshopped a better logo in 7th grade. If I ever win the lottery, my massive athletic department donation is contingent on burning that logo to the ground and purging all remnants.
The modified Orr-nado is clearly the best vintage logo we have (along with Walking Cy).

Why stop there? How about pants made of real gold. All the weight may slow down our skill players, but hey, at least people will say...
