I'm curious to see what Williams can do offensively. Is there potential there? Is he one who can maybe flourish in a bigger role team-wide?

Chris and Stanz basically indicate we're never going to get a top tier transfer due to hard to compete with NIL's (example: McCuller/Shannon) but that we have to strike fortunate with the next good tier transfer. (example Holmes, etc.). So while it may be an anxious/exciting offseason, not counting on chickens that aren't hatched.
I agree with them that it's not likely we land the top tier of transfers However, Brockington for us last year was every bit as good as McCuller has been for KU this year. We can get P5 guys who were maybe underutilized or not in the right system and have them breakout here. We've done that in the past with Brockington, Christopherson, Burton, Cyburn, Allen, Lucious, Babb and I would argue Kalscheur to some extent. All those guys came here and exceeded the production at the previous P5 school and I think wouldn't be viewed as in the "top tier" of transfers if they happened today.

I really would not get my hopes up on that

9PPG, 23% from 3, 63% from the line. He's a repeat of what we already have

That's going back a ways, and I was thinking primarily backcourt players that improve our shooting/scoring issues. I guess Babb too, if you want to go back further. But even then that's 3 or 4 guys in 10 years.
It's much more likely TJ targets, and gets, mid major level guys.
Michael Jacobson was P6. Allen, Lucious, McKay and Clyburn. Christopherson if you want to go even further back. But I agree, most of our transfers will be mid majors. There's no reason we can't pull in another Brockington/Kalscheur who were good a their previous school, but not studs.

Williams shot 32% from 3 as a frosh, but dipped as a soph. I agree his shooting is a big question mark as he has never had to be a high volume 3 point shooter. Brockington was a 27% 3 point shooter his 2 years at PSU. So hopefully the 20 months, between William's Temple career and playing at ISU, will allow him to develop his jumper.

IMO the bigger deal than getting stud 3 point shooter(s) is getting guard(s) who are explosive and can get their shot whether in the paint or from 3.

Feel we need a couple transfers, but the bigger deal for me is development of players like Lipsey, Watson, Williams, Biliew and Momcilovic. If we want to be an NCAA Tournament team next year, we'll need some offensive threats off the bench.

I saw where Stanz projects Eli King to leave, but really hoping he sticks around. Hoping he can develop into a physical bigger guard like Jaren Holmes by his junior year.

ouch....hoping it was a little better than that. Obviously a pass first point guard/game manager type but mostly DEFENDER.... maybe?

I’m saying Gabe transferred from Minnesota, a P6 school, and had a significant impact.

Also he shot 35% from 3 this year. Definitely streaky, but I would say it will be tough to find an upgrade from Gabe, who was an elite perimeter defender.
We should have an ISU basketball all time underappreciated team.

If we did, GK should be the team captain. I can't think of another hoops player who seemed so polarizing with the fan base.

He’s a quality mid range scorer and is a better finisher than Jaren. He’s also got three years he if he wants.

He’s a better defender than Jaren as well. He’ll be one of the best perimeter defenders next year.

I guess when I said 'significant impact' I meant more leading the team in scoring or shooting. Since that is what everyone agrees we need next year. Another Kunc, Jacobsen, or even Burton doesn't help us improve in that area.

Hopefully a better ball handler against pressure too

I'll take your word for it. I wasn't all that excited about him last year due to the poor offensive numbers and checking his stats against P6 and better mid major squads don't do much for me either. Coming off a full year of not playing as well makes me really skeptical over if he's do much of anything on offense other than pass.

Noticed he was not mentioned in Stanz’s latest article. A bummer, but not terribly surprising I guess.
In the postmortem pod Chris mentioned E King and Hasan by name as guys who could benefit by dropping down a level. And yeah the complete lack of Stanz mentioning him either doesn’t bode well

Way up there
Hasn't Williams dealt with injuries every year? Hard to look to hard into his numbers when he's only played half a season each year.

I would love to see what Eli could do with more playing time. He has the right attitude. I was impressed when he came in against KU in the Big 12 semis. Took the ball to the rim and got fouled. Most guys who haven't played much would've chucked up a long shot or just dribbled and passed it off. Kid wasn't afraid of the moment.

If we had less needs than what we do I'd be 100% in for him coming back. Not that I want him gone. But someones gotta go to get shooters in here
