We were ranked 291st and 321st in college basketball in free throw % the last two years under TJ.

All of the guys he brought in are excellent free throw shooters. What a relief it will be to not have a comedy show everytime we get fouled now. Just need to keep BRE from getting to the line much.
He will probably lead the team in attempts. I am guessing he will work on it a lot this offseason though and maybe be able to get his % up to like, 60

huh? if you took out BRE, the team shot over 70% on the season - not great but not horrible
talking on a per game basis-- there have been games we've shot <45% as a team from the floor

Holmes was the dribble drive, get in the paint guy last year and led the team by far, shooting almost twice as many free throws as Jones. And TJ brought in 3 guys that do that same thing, and all shot more total free throws than Rob Jones last season.

Obviously minutes may be different this season, but all 3 new guys, plus Omaha, and hopefully Lipsey and King, are ahead of Rob Jones in FTs next year.

Jaren Holmes 109 total, 4 per 40min
Rob Jones 62 total, 4 per 40
Curtis Jones 73 total, 3 per 40
Pav 139 total, 5 per 40
Gilbert 104 total, 5 per 40

Side note: how impressive is that for Pav, at 6-3 175 and a freshman, to have those numbers?
I think with some added strength he's going to be more of a Shayok/Brockington type than a spot up shooting Thomas/Naz Long type.

No, he won’t. It’d be a waste of a scholarship since he’s likely to stick around on the team regardless. He won’t earn one likely until his senior season.
Well my positive post got shot down. I'd like to bet a couple drinks of bourbon that he earns a scholarship prior to his sr. year. So far under TJ our teams throw more concrete block for shots than not. We struggle to score, we are definitly below average. It appears this is being addressed but scoring is what this kid has done well from a % standpoint. If he can adequatly defend he might be able to carve out a nice niche on this team. Hang around the three point line, post get double teamed kick out for 3. He shoots every shot well, overall %, 3pt % and FT%. that is not lucky. He fills a nice role that we havent had in awhile. there are still a ton of questions, but we'll see.

I cant wait for next years team. There will be some growing pains with the young guys and getting new guys in the system, but the talent upgrade is a big welcome.

I am in no way saying Cade will never see significant minutes. I was just saying there’s a very slim chance that happens before he’s an upperclassman. Could it be his junior year? Sure, but I’d bet he wouldn’t be awarded the scholarship until semester because we were sitting on one.

Cade is very good and a very good shooter but TJ didn’t bring him in to help with our shooting woes. He addressed that through his recruiting of the ‘23 and ‘24 classes as well as his portal gets this this spring. Cade is just the cherry on top in that he’s a dead eye shooter who will push these other guys to be better and then hopefully he can carve out a role that’s not just coming into the game in garbage time.
